Personally I hate mozilla... tried it a few times and allways go back to IE...

Seems to me more to be something that its cool to have rather than something that gives a better experience... Yeah its safer, but so what.. not much good if many sites you use wont even open with it...

Not too mention that... it may well be safer now, but if it ever gets to have a high percentage of overall users... It will be ripped apart as well

Many sites? It's incredibly rare for me to come across a site that won't open at all. Most open perfectly and on occasion some have minor glitches. In any case Mozilla is designed to be 100% standards compliant so you can hardly fault it for bad web design.

Yes and no. Windows itself is basically a big security hole. Whether that will improve with Longhorn time will tell. It would certainly make life easier for all the users. But the problems of Windows make any browser "unsafe" because a trivial browser exploit already gives you full administrator access. If you run unix/linux in a non-priviliged account, the worst a browser exploit can do is wipe your home dir but leaves the rest of the system (and all the other user accounts) untouched.

Making a "safe" browser in Windows is like trying to protect a city by sending one tank to the front line and if the enemy destroys it, the city is completely unprotected.

Having said that, IE is so closely tied to Windows that any problem with IE leaves Windows even more exposed than any other browser can. And it's proven time and time again that IE is the least safe browser on the market, both Mozilla and Opera wipe the floor with it in terms of security.

But since I know how keen you are on research and competence, it couldn't take you more than 5 minutes to learn most of what there is to know about Mozilla vs IE and I wouldn't have to explain it myself. Hell, the subject has been live in the press for so long (2 years at least) that it's hardly a mystery to anyone anymore.

Havent used it for a few months, but last time i had issues with some 40% or so of the sites i regurlarly visit.

Well not opening or troublesome pages for me are the same.. Not good enough...

Can they be held at fault for bad web design... In my view yes... seeing as other browsers dont have an issue with it... Not all websites are made by experts or with a great level of care.

I spent alot of time looking into it before putting it on my machine and even more inbetween... Theres plenty of opposing views from both sides and both sides have shown tests that supposedly show the others flaws...
Basically its all bollocks from mainly people with an agenda...

What matters to me... is that it never did alot for me, it caused me problems and i dont like the user interface either... So whatever one or the other says, doesnt really matter as in my own tests it failed miserably

Well it's a choice to make. Either you implement the standard which is agreed upon and is supposed to be followed or you try to mimic IE. You can't have both so either way there will always be some sites that don't work very well. Opera follows the standard and apparently does a better job at rendering bad code but it also has problems of its own, like poor javascript handling at times. The problem isn't the browsers, it's the sites. For some reason people assume that when a page doesn't open in IE, it's broken. Whereas if it doesn't open in Firefox, it's the browser. And it's obviously because the web builder only bothered to test with IE so that generally is largely debugged.

Well if you're tried it and didn't like it, there isn't much point in discussing it further. For some reason there seems to be a great deal of people who consider Firefox heaps better, which would explain why it's gaining market share all the time. I certainly think it's so much better and I was long annoyed with the many problems of IE. In fact I thought that is how web browsing has to be (popups, spyware and anti-popup, anti-spyware to counter that) until I tried Mozilla.

That doesn't mean it's perfect, I use it because it's the best one I found (IE isn't a choice anyway cause it doesn't run on linux). It does have its problems, like being a bit slow to render (at least with a few extensions loaded), occasionally freezing the system for like 300ms when loading big pages and being a total memory hog. But since I don't like Opera I'm stuck with it and it's not a bad choice either.

Im not saying its rubbish.. Im jus saying it didnt work for me...

The problem i have with firefox is that people throw it down your throat all the time , telling you how great it is and how people that dont use it are fools...

Fact is they both have their plusses and minus' and some like one whilst some like the other or opera and the like...

    Personally i prefer IE

Well I was a strong Mozilla advocate some time ago. Back then I believed Mozilla to be so much better than IE. But weaknesses have started to surface and Firefox which was once so blazing fast isn't that speedy anymore.

Besides now there is so much publicity for it that I'm happy just using it without recommending it anymore.

Btw don't you think tabbed browsing is an elegant solution to having many pages open?

    ?!

    Why?
It introduced this whole new "conversation" concept which is difficult to navigate, and if you're on a mailing lists- it just becomes a big mess.

I quit this experiment just 3 weeks down the road.

Threaded messages? It's not exactly a new concept :)

I disagree that people are using it because its cool. Firefox is faster with more features, thats why its better. I have problems on very few sites. Some shitty designed pages dont work? Probably a good, maybe then people will take the 25 minutes it requires to learn html before making a webpage.

Though the new IE will probably be equally as good if not better and then Mozilla can go back to being something only web geeks care about :D

Id put gmail number 1. There has been no greater improvement over what was previously available. Even if you dont use it you can thank it for your bigger yahoo/msn inboxs. Its faster than the rest, has less shit and has almost unlimited space. The other emails dont have a single advantage over gmail so I really dont get why people dont like it. And dont throw up the whole conspiracy crap :D Ive even stopped using pop3 email for gmail. Really no need for it anymore :)

Yahoo gives you 1gb of space too. It probably has more ads but the pages load just as fast for me and I've been using it for years.
