I'm thinking that he is not over his injury issues, or is at least managing them, and we've got a 70-80% player for as long as it takes. This happens a lot in football, and it's not helped by the lack of rotation and modern fixture list. Physically he doesn't look right to me.

There are tactical and maybe confidence issues (I'm not so convinced on the latter, as he doesn't seem like that sort of player) as well but I think this goes a bit beyond a player struggling in his first season. The way Atalanta play suited the way he facilitated moves, especially in transition with how they create space and are dynamic. You can see his vision but it's really not working with the rest of the team. I think he's talented enough that he should come good eventually, but there's question marks on whether that's under Motta or someone else, and whether he will ever reach Atalanta levels simply because he's out of that perfect environment and being tasked to do different things.
appreciate the feedback, but i wonder will you apply same logic to vlahovic for example?

Good player with confidence issues who isn't worth 12m p/a.
I'd say he's a great player who has been unable to perform to his highest level due to factors including confidence and woeful tactical approaches by two successive coaches - but who still was the second highest scorer in Serie A in 2024.

Not worth 12m a year completely agree. Not with our budget how it is.

Yeah, much better tonight. His passing was good, managed to keep possession well enough. Poor finishing though, although he did create a chance for himself. Glimmer of hope that he isnt a dud after tonight.

He was more involved tonight which is a positive. It really isn't working for him around the box though which partly feels like one of those spells strikers can have where they can't score but comes good eventually. I'm glad he is still getting into scoring positions.

But he needs to step up to be in our top 3 or 4 players on the pitch.

Don't like him. I haven't seen a single thing to suggest he's anywhere near a great player and that justifies his price tag. Nada. Him and Luiz both.

We can't keep blaming the coach and his tactics when players are the ones making the stupid decisions. Can't fix dumb.

He works like a dog..doesnt stop running and generally tried but he cant miss chances like he did. Sorry, when you are the marquee signing you bury that in the net 10 out of 10 times.
