Well, they dont exactly talk bad about Microsoft in this article:

In short, there is nothing really surprising in this leak. Microsoft does not steal open-source code. Their older code is flaky, their modern code excellent. Their programmers are skilled and enthusiastic. Problems are generally due to a trade-off of current quality against vast hardware, software and backward compatibility.

SEATTLE, Washington(AP) -- Microsoft Corp. is sending letters to people who are downloading or sharing portions of its Windows source code, in an effort to stop the illegally obtained operating system secrets from spreading further over the Internet.

Microsoft spokesman Tom Pilla said this week that the letters are intended to let people know that such actions are illegal, and that the company is not threatening legal action at this point.

"We're asking users to, No. 1, simply stop sharing and distributing it, and, No. 2, to delete and destroy [it]," Pilla said.

Microsoft admitted last week that some parts of the tightly guarded source code for its Windows 2000 and Windows NT4.0 computer operating systems were illegally leaked over the Internet. The Redmond, Washington, software giant has said it is working with the FBI on the case, and the company has vowed to "take all appropriate legal actions to protect its intellectual property."

Competitors can reverse engineer it. Can you imagine how pissed off Ferrari would be if 1/8th of the plans for their newest F1 car got out?

Even if no one else can use it in their own stuff, hackers will be looking at the weaknesses in the code. Windows is fragile enough as it is.
