that is not so far away from a 4-2-3-1 as proposed by many members here

it would mean very much running for camo and giovinco

camo already showed that he is not willing to do that anymore and giovinco will try, but does not have the horse lung of nedved

I was just being optimistic and put Gio in the line-up
Ranieri would probably prefer De Ceglie
the difference is not just the tactic but also the intention
in a 4-2-3-1 the emphasis would be much more up front

It's a solid formation, and with the players we have, it might well work. Diego in the center of that 3, flanked by Camo and Giovinco with Amauri as the lone striker. Camo, Gio, and Del Piero can alternate and I am sure they will all get playing time. The 2 behind can be Sissoko and Marchisio/Hamsik. Then we are set.

I have various formations that I would like to propose (with the different potential line-ups) but I will do that later.

the solution to what?
there is no magical sollution to anything
every time someone here brings up a possible 4-2-3-1 formation
there are posters who bring up the poor Roma results this season as if that was the cause
if we should play with this tactic it depends on the coach and his instructions on individual players
you can't just say that is a bad tactic and that's a good one
like I said before, we have played a 4-4-2 for a while now and so do dozens of other teams but they are completely different every time
think about Arsenal, do they play like we do? I don't think so yet they play a 4-4-2 too

I'm still not sure about playing the 4-2-3-1 as we will have to play diego in the middle. His work rate is a bit suspect and that formation needs midfield workhorses to avoid getting exposed.

Also Alex doesn't play well in that formation and the same for trezi. So the attacking end will have to be considered.

Rightyeo, on both. Good hard working working midfield with decent passers, the only issue is that we don't have someone to dictate the pace from the midfield. All three midfielders are more box to box players. I think that is where players like poulsen and zanetti would have a role to play over the season.

    Sure.

We have quite a few options for central midfielders and Zanetti and Poulsen would certainly offer more composure than Marchisio or Sissoko.

There cant be a CR formation without Marchionni, where is Marchionni???
Marchionni isn't a starter. When both Camo and Nedved are fit, Marchionni sits on the bench. He is only prefered to Giovinco (as is De Ceglie) and he was a starter only when one of Camo or Nedved wasn't available.
Even Salihamidzic, when fit, was prefered to Marchionni this season.

Just check the starting XI of all our matches this season and you'll see that what i say is true.

Molinaro, Grygera, Nedved, Del Piero, Chiellini, Buffon (who missed 2-3 months of the season), Legrottaglie, Mellberg, Amauri and Sissoko played more minutes than Marchionni this year.
If Camo and Brazzo weren't injured for most of the season, Marchionni wasn't even going to start more than 4-5 matches.

Considering Camo's and Neddys condition and the fact that Marchionni is next on the pecking, practically he is a starter and the numbers confirm that.
In an ideal world with no injuries and suspensions he isnt it,
but we can deny reality, we already did once and we had to endure one more year having him as a starter, this has to be avoided, it is time for decisive move, NOW!!

This matter only comes second to our urgent need of a quality RB...

Actually there were one or two occassions where Marchionni started on the right although Camoranesi was available.
