david del piero's is the best..but somehow nobody is playing 3 back anymore....
True, the majority of the top teams use a back four but Capello did play with a three man defence last season with Roma. It all depends on what he wants though. Should he feel the desire to play a back three he would certainly ask for another top quality centre back so we'll get a better idea of what formation Don Fabio will use in the future after transfers are made.

I have always admired Capello's use of the 3-4-1-2 at Roma, and with the right players I think it could be very successful. That formation is one of the most balanced in terms of attacking and defending:

Buffon

Zebina - Thuram - Cannavaro

Zambrotta - Emerson - Blasi - Jankulovski/Maxwell

Nedved

Trezeguet - Ibrahimovic

Of course for this to work we must find a better RCB than Zebina. But the wings and center of the pitch look very solid for this formation.

I totally agree Andy ;) maybe use this lineup until summer?

Buffon

Thuram - Tudor - Cannavaro

Camo - Emerson - Blasi - Zambro

Nedved

Trezeguet - Ibrahimovic

:p but of course I want another defender than Tudor there, and we need someone fresh to replace Thuram. And replace of Nedved... Argh, something's telling me that we have to spend a lot of money this summer to remain the top team in Serie A and top 5 in Europe..

Andy's formation looks good, but your's wouldn't work David Del Piero because the wide men in a 3-4-1-2 need to be both defensively and offensively adept and Camoranesi isn't good enough when it comes to the former. Players like Zambrotta and Jankulovski suit that role perfectly.

Let's wait and see how we do with the return of Trezeguet before we talk about changing tactics, but I personally feel that a 4-4-2 with two defensive midfielders requires world-class wingers and strikers who will take a high percentage of the chances that come their way because there won't be alot coming out of the centre of midfield. Trez may offer that cutting edge upfront but there would still be too much pressure on Nedved, Camoranesi and Ibrahimovic. We need a CM who can create.

I think Camoranesi is doing a fine job in defence...but thats just me :D Of course I want Jankulovski instead, but thats not gonna happen. I hope im wrong

-----------------------GIGI-----------------------------

Zebina--------Thuram-Canna-----------Rambo---

-----------------------------Blasi--------------------

----------------Emo----------------------------------

---Camo------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------Neddy---------------

----------------Z-----------------------------------------

-------------------------Trez----------------------------

With what we currently have, this is the best imo, plus we can easily fit in oli and kapo for camo and neddy.

I'd like to see Capello try Olivera as cmf, as he did in the second half against fiorentina. After that game Capello , if I recall correctly, praised Olivera and he said that Olivera is fit for cmf.

Or i'd like Kapo on the left and Nedved as cmf. Nedved is a hardworker and fights for balls as well, he is complete enough as a player for the role as cmf.

I hope that Capello will at least TRY something like this.

it worked out really well and we actually managed to out-play Livorno in 40 minutes and had great ball possession and passings. Not like before. Longballs and lucky goals :p The Juventus I saw in the first 40 minutes of this game was amazing.

FORZA JUVE!

changing from a 4 man defence to 3 man should only be done in the pre season...too much factor involved.... we dont have enough resource in it anyway to play it....
I concur, we should not be changing our tactics anytime soon. This is only something I would consider over the summer.

We were. But we still need a more effective playmaker. Then a striker. Valerij is beginning to look very attractive, and at 16.5m euros...

well i wouldnt even think about this thread before the livorno game, but the game just showed us that we have a great coach that has a vision that lasts years, not just till the next match. Not many ppl would field a different formation when they are leading the serie A and in the need of a win.

    ----------------------------------------Gigi--------------------------------------------

    ----------Zebina-----------------cana------------thuram--------------zamrbo-----
    -
    -----------camo-------------------------emerson------------------neddy------------
    -----------------------------olivera(free role)-------------------------
    ------------------zlatan-----------------------------alex-----------------------------------

well this is the formation from the formation u could see the risk in it. We have three players that are not defensive at all in midfield. i mean camo gets back but again he doesnt have the strong defensive attributes that blasi, tacchi, and appiah have.
This is why we conceded 2 goals from lowly livorno, it didnt have anything to do with the defence. It can be all illustrated in the first goal almost every defender was hooked up with an attacker or trying to cover.
And u cant possibly ask olivera to defend more as he just doesnt have it in him, thats why we saw neddy go back more and camo too. but they didnt cover well and we conceded twice from counters.

Olivera:well he played a very good match in midfield, i liked the way he used his power as the livorno players found it very hard to get the ball from him.85% of his passes we pretty good, however he messed up some good counters when livorno were attacking. But overall i think he is very fit for this position "offensively

Thats the good part of it, here is the bad news is that we cant play against big teams with this formation as they would simply skin us alive. Just think that livorno who dont have a ronaldo, or a sheva,or a adriano, and they scored twice, just imagine what could a top class team do to the offensive team.

Here came the importance of blasi , which from me he is the most underrated player in the whole team. When he is playing the whole midfield gets up ahead and he handles the defensive problems in midfield by himself later, however his attacking abilities are not very good, although he can shoot very well. tacchi played a very good game on sunday, good passes and he held up the midfield very well. From all our defensive midfielders he is the best one in regard to passes.but the problem with him is that he is not very fast and thats needed nowadays in midfield.
Appiah is very good offensively and defensively,he can shoot, run fast, tackle.but many of his passes are not very good, thats his only problem.

For me i think that in the coming weeks we are gonna see more of olivera and less of neddy.I dont have anything against neddy, but thats how the system works, this is the only reasonable solution to balance out the defensive areas and the offensive ones. Also i think this would do good for neddy, more than to harm.He will then try his best to regain his place and then we will see better performances from him.
