I hope the team can have a consistent performance like yesterday's game and Igor manages to improve and implement his tactics.
I like the way players pressed and pushed forward yesterday.

The team still has problems against opponents who play defensively and we have roughly passing the ball in the spaces between the opposing defenders, the need for a creative midfielder is immensely felt. Locatelli only makes simple passes. He has literally no any creativity and with him, the midfield is completely dead and at the disposal of the opponents.

Tactics? 2 man midfield with Locatelli will get destroyed in Europe.
.
Was about to correct you on that, but you’re right, Serie A is also in Europe.

On your other point, it does feel a bit like we piled up a lot of quality options for the forward line but haven’t addressed much of the other issues outside of it, meaning we maybe want to bet everything on our final third bailing us out more consistently, or so i’d assume at least.

Also rans: Miretti, Milik, Adzic, Facundo Gonzalez ( ), Nico Gonzalez ( :yuck: )

What's up with Perin? He's still on the books but wasn't at the Genoa game. Is he leaving or staying?

We'll be riding our luck as much as possible this year. We need the wingbacks to double up with the wingers to force opponents to double up on them as well, which will open up the centre. They've not been doing that well enough and our front three got marked out the game yesterday. I don't want us relying on Vlahovic's mentality again or for that matter Cambiaso's. Bremer easily our best player with Yildiz and Di Gregorio in the next tier and Connie, Thuram, Locatelli, Kalulu and Cambiaso being in the tier after that.

It's a weak first XI and an even shakier bench but we've seen all of the starters (besides Kelly) put in high level performances. Tudor's job is to get that out of them regularly. If he can we'll be comfortably in the top 4.

And an important ethno-national rundown of the squad:

Italian: 8
Balkan/Slav: 5 +Tudor
South American: 4
^of which Uruguayan: 1
French: 3

North American: 2
Portuguese: 2
Dutch: 1
Belgian: 1
Turk: 1
English: 1

I'm quite satisfied with this balance although I'd like to see one more Uruguayan in the 1st team - one more likely to play than wee Facu as well- and one fewer North American or English player..

I hope that Tudor has some tactical flexibility. In a situation where say, Cambiaso and Mario are not available, then it makes sense to switch to a back 4 and adopt either a 433 or 4231. In the end, you should pick the best formation based on the players you have available rather than the other way around. In a back 4 situation, I wouldn’t want Mario as a right back.

Openda can be extremely useful in games where we want to emphasise the counter attack.

The thing is we've already seen that the backup RWB isn't McKennie it's Kalulu which means any time a WB isn't available we downgrade two positions and not just one.

Best-case scenario that was a childish "send a message to the board" move from Tudor

Ya I think a backup 4 is possible with Kelly and Kalulu on the flanks. Then you can try 4 attackers with David behind a striker.
Surely if we're doing 4 attackers it'll be Yildiz as the 10?

Not a fan of putting four CBs on the field. We struggle with creativity and can't expect it to arrive from CBs, even if they are Huijsen or Bonbon. No matter what they do. We can push them higher, ask them to progress with the ball, make runs, etcetera. But they will still not have the same vision, passing ability, etcetera. Stop playing Kalulu as RWB. Don't care too much about what formation we deploy but we need different types of players, and too much of the same makes the team too static.

We need more French players. Too many Balkans. Recipe for disaster on and off field.

I agree more frogs and maybe we could lose one balkan warrior but imo the rate of additional nationality weirdos is too high. Do we really need an American AND a Canadian? A Dutchboi AND a Flander?

Most pressing of all is the utter lack of any Uruguayans in the entire setup. Montero is in the background but the only other is his son. Simply not good enough to win anything

I think Openda and Zhegrova will be starters and have a big impact on the way this team plays. I consider those great upgrades
Honestly reading about Openda is good in space and adds creativity that we only seem to have with Yildez and Chico when he doesn't fall down. The other dude Zhegrova also seems like an offensive weapon. :xfingers:

. Me either. My belief is if you don't even have three quality ones, why add a fourth?

yeah we’ve seen it and it hasn’t really worked, so it shouldn’t be permanent. Also, Miretti hasn’t been available yet. When both Miretti and McKennie were available vs Dortmund in preseason, this was McKennies heat map (Miretti played in Loca’s role.) Looks like a RWB to me

Respectable team. Depends on a coach now to make it work. He has plenty of options.
Tudor has given quite freedom of choosing in the attack department, the team is fully equipped. Has never had such depth in attack in the last 5 years.
David has scored 35 goals in Ligue 1 over the past two seasons.
Vlahovic has scored 26 goals in Serie A over the past two seasons.
Openda has scored 33 goals in the Bundesliga over the past two seasons
A combined 94 goals or 47 goals a season. Adding Yildinz in that list the team are on fire in the attack.
