Pirlo is still going to play a lot for us next year, and in a couple years, when he hangs 'em up, our team will look totally different.

The window for a lot of our top guys is only 2-3 more years, between age and interest from other teams (which is why I really thought we'd be going for established players this mercato). We will not be playing 3-4-3. Not then, and I highly, highly, highly doubt next season, given the pieces we have and are rumoured to be purchasing. You're not going to see our coach effectively bench Pirlo for Bonucci. Not going to happen. Conte also may not even be the coach after next season, which would make a 3 man defence less likely in the future.

Ogbonna also generally plays on the left side of the field; if Barzagli is done in a couple years, we'll have somebody else for that right side CB (If we do play with our 3 man defence this season, I expect to see Caceres playing on the right while Andrea heals up).

It wouldn't surprise me if we play a 4-3-3 system that will probably look more like a 4-3-2-1, or a 4-3-1-2 at times, depending on who is in the game. I feel as though our manager is going to want to keep Carlitos fairly central in our attack, in order to get the most out of him. Can't $#@!ing wait for this season to kick off!
well said, we cannot rest and be relaxed just becaused we have won 3 scudettos. In football, things are constantly changing. Players are ageing, teams are poaching. You have to be on your toes and anticipate and solve problems and plan in advance. Look at Barca, they stuck with the same midfield for years and now they have no idea what to do when these players retire. We have to start scouting for the next Vidal, Barzagli and Lichsteiner.

well i cant see tevez behind two strikers you need more capable passing player for that position + argentina play with three strikers most of the time.

i find 433 more comfortable to our squad than 4312 when you have players like coman and gio like to play wide some times and who knows who is caming also

Pereyra, Pogba, Marchisio, Seba.
Gio has atrocious decition making and passing...but maybe it was in part due to him being constantly under pressure when receiving the ball. Gio with space always has been effective, so maye is worth a shot. But it would be a radical change from what we have now. I doubt it.

the closer one imo is pogba but he need alot of work in short passing
IMO the real candidate with the passing arsenal and vision to play there is Pirlo. He got the passes, the shoot, the vision and he make ssome good dribles fromt mie to time... but im still resisting of keep using him so much. He is very old now. Yess i know, he still got it.. but we need to find a replacement and fast. The other candidate is definitely pogba. We never have given him the chance to play a very offensive position...i would love to see what he can do when playing full offensive without having to worry to play too deep or track back too much

In the 4-3-1-2..we do not have wide players. Evra and Licht are too old for the task.. and i doubt that 2 of the 3 holding mids will try to spread the play and leave their position. 4312 has no width.

this is not a suggestion for starting formation, but perhaps an alternative approach to deploy for tough away games at cl... but maybe apply a 4-1-3-2 formation with pirlo free to roam anywhere in order to dictate the game. With Vidal, Pogba, and Marchisio in front to secure defense but allow for more counter attacking runs from the back. Lion at top for "high" target balls and Tevez for insane quality. whatcha think? :boh:

So basically a 4-4-2
