I'm thinking its pirlo.

Currently there isnt a deeplying regista that we can realistically get, that would give us a better formation, ten going with a diamond mid or 4-2-3-1 w2 holdingcm's

and for both above formations, there are plenty of players w can get to improve it

I still don't see how three (or five as it often ends up being) works against a teams playing 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

In the game tonight, Juve just fell back into playing 5-4-1 for long spells and that made it extremely difficult for them to keep the ball when they got it because there just weren't that many passing options to moving the ball forward.

If anything, the 3-5-1-1 (5-4-1) makes Juve even more reliant on Vucinic doing well than they have been through the rest of the season. With him being looked to as the lone forward to hold the ball up to give the rest of the team time to get up the pitch initially, and than being relied on to provide the guile around the edge of the box to find midfield runners to allow Juve to do anything incisive.

At least when he has another forward playing ahead of him both tasks are easier for him as the other forward can push the defence back a little and make it harder for them to move forward and really get tight to Vucinic.

I wouldnt see to much in it red, conte is eighter testing the rigidity of the diamond, and the idea of marchisio beeing behind the striker

4-3-1-2 with vidal,pogba,asamoah ; marchisio ; NEW SS, llorente

or

4-2-3-1 with vidal,porba ; new am/ss(or vucinic), marchisio, new am/wf(or pepe) ; llorente

should be the way to go.

I'm far from convinced.

I think the ~3-5-2 is here to stay and the current tinkering is just coming about because he is so utterly fed up of the forwards other than Vucinic and because he is starting to give some thought to what he might do to adjust that system next time Juve come up against a strong team with wingers.

In the 4-3-1-2 the problem would still be there, 2vs1 on defense if the RB/LB has an offensive mentality, and there's where they hurt us the most. I wanted to try that formation too with a proper trequartista but, but then to my mind come teams that play with wingers.

Probably the best solution would be keep the RB/LB worried about our attacking players?

4-3-1-2 can deal with wingers and attacking full-backs because it has enough strength in the middle (assuming the trequartista is prepared to work back a bit) that one of the central midfielders can be quite wide at any given time, rather like what Juve can do when playing the 3-5-1-1.

However, Juve taking the option of putting in an extra central midfielder makes the system unnecessarily defensive, to my mind, in the vast majority of situations.

Would it work better than:

Buffon

Lichtsteiner-Barzagli-Chiellini-Peluso

Vidal-?????-Marchisio

Draxler

Llorente-Suarez

?????? = Pirlo or Pogba

Because that would seem to get those players playing in their more natural roles.

I don't even like 4-3-1-2. :D

I'm not really suggesting a change from a back three, which I dislike, to a very narrow system, which I also dislike.

I much prefer 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3.

Did it mean something when Conte played a 3-5-2 aganist Napoli prior to playing witha 4-3-3?

- - - Updated - - -

I would also like to see a 4-2-3-1 allowing us to stop relying on Pirlo since it doesnt look like we will obtain a dlp anytime soon

I wouldn't want to see a 3-5-1-1 or 4-4-1-1 next season.

I really really dislike isolating one striker up top. If we want to use a trequartista, switch to a 4-3-1-2.

But like TrezJuve said, I wouldn't look too much into that. I'm sure Conte has switched to a 3-5-1-1 for current tactical reasons.

I don't know if Conte is gonna change his formation next season. But one thing is sure. It'll be a formation that holds 4 CM's. Pogba, Marchisio, Vidal & Pirlo.
