I think the 433 suits our midfield more, but the 352 helps the forwards better. And that means guys like Matri, Quag and to some extent Alex. The only forward in our team who fits the 433 better is Vucinic, which also means we are then heavily reliant in him to show up every game.

Lichtsteiner is also much better in the 4-3-3.

No more 3-5-2.

Two striker formation definitely suits Quag and DP more, but neither of them will offer enough in order to change a working line-up to suit them. We need what's better for the team as a unit and it's very obvious that the 4-3-3 with the three CMs, Pepe, Vucinic and Matri is the best we have.

For me, its the three CMs that dictate the formation given how much pressing and possession our game involves, and which is why the 433 is the way to go. I feel part of the problem behind our goal drought is our over dependence on Vuci in the said formation. He creates movement but is not prolific enough as a scorer himself, also contingent on which Vuci shows up. Guys like DP, Quag and Matri are more prolific in that sense and have goals in them if played in a system that suits them. In the 433 though, I feel the midfielders are just as likely to score and which is why it works better than the 352. Ive never really thought about this, but I'm now wondering which formation is best suited to optimise a strong midfield, which suits a strong d and which best suits a prolific forward line.

Well yeah, that's what I'm saying.
But the width given by attacking players is also very important. That's why the 3-5-2 doesn't work despite having the same 3 CMs in the line-up. We field a full back to provide width on one side and Licht isn't good at that, while on the other side the other player who should give width is a lot less attacking (Esti was playing there usually).
I was talking about the available players and how that particular 4-3-3 is by far the best way to go. With new additions in the summer the 3-5-2 might become a better suited formation for Juve. Right now it isn't.
But buying players for a 3-5-2 will demand more money. We will still need a prolific striker and we will need two quality wingbacks. We will lose Licht though because he'll be almost useless as a wing back. In 4-3-3 we will just need one or two attacking players and keep as much as 9 of the current starters.

4-3-1-2 could work if we get a playmaker like Pastore but 4-3-3 is the most flexible one out there. That's what we should stick with. If we get someone like Cavani or Higuan, and a better RW scoring shouldn't be a problem.

4-2-3-1 is my fave

We really should stick to 4-3-3, it was clear earlier in the season that that's our best formation (with those certain players). Perfect players next season Higuain/Cavani and Lavezzi or someone like that for RW. Ramirez too :tuttosport:

I get the feeling that Conte's favourite formation is the 3-5-2 and he's using it in games this season in preparation for Europe next season.

I think he likes the flexibility of having in effect 5 defenders when we don't have possession and the extra midfielders to overlap in attack. I'm pretty sure that we'll see 4-3-3 again this season but next year it'll be 3-5-2 all the way. 3-5-2 is also a way to slow opposition in the midfield and create an opportunity to win the ball and hit on the counter which he may want to do in Europe.

Also if we get the right Prima Punta and say Vucinic as the SS we can go very defensive and play 5-3-1-1 without the ball and the quick pirlo long ball from a turnover in the middle of the park may just have a lot more relevance...

just something i've been thinking over the last few weeks anyway

I still don't see it becoming a first choice thing.

I can see him using in two scenarios:

1. When Juve are playing against a team who plays 3-5-2 (Napoli, Udinese, Parma); and

2. When Juve aren't in great physical condition. The 4-3-3 involves a high tempo and pressing hard. Juve don't really know how rest during the game when playing that system. With 3-5-2 the game is slower and Juve look more comfortable when they drop deep and just look to soak up pressure.

I think maybe even fear that 3-5-2 will be our prime tactical setup
the forwards being mentionned like Suarez, Van Persie, Cavani can all play in a wide position
I believe if Gio returns he will be a forward at Juve next to let's say Suarez
both can drift wide so that our midfield can infiltrate form deep like we did all season long

I think Conte should really think of having a formation without Pirlo. He should get some players so we can play 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2, with Marchisio and Vidal as DM!
