I still think they're grooming Pogba into taking Pirlo's spot (unless the somehow snatch Verratti). Doesn't mean he'll play like Pirlo, nor that they'd ask him to, as Pirlo is almost one of a kind. He'll be more dynamic and will move forward much more, which will require the other midfielders to move laterally more instead of just going deep. That in turn puts more emphasis on the forwards, who right now are almost relegated into manipulating the defense. So with better forwards and perhaps better wing backs, Pogba as the CM might work splendidly. More solid defensively too.

 forum went mad after other teams game  CL thread closed?

anyway, how can we beat barca? any idea? :D

IMO the most dangerous thing from barca/spain is how quickly they get the ball back, IMHO that is something never seen before in history of modern football, 2 obvious questions :

1. how do they do that? seriously, countless other teams in history weren't and aren't as good as them at winning the ball back, why this one is different?
2. how to counter that ability?

Well when they press like that it opens up space. You need players that can exploit that space and hit them quick.

no, that is not enough, if you only do that you will be relying on luck.

need to deny them the ball and nullify their ability to recover the ball quickly.

perhaps the 3-6-1 formation proposed by RUS in pogba's thread can be the answer.

Their running and pressing ability is suspicious. I mean how many years and when had it all started? How is it possible that every game in the last 5-6 years they dominate possession 60-70%. Was there any team in that period who actually had more possession against them? I bet Dr Fuentes had something to do with it in the beggining. I don't want to sound like some conspiracy theorist but again how do they do it in every game for the past 6 years?

yea it's weird if you consider that no other teams, even many great teams in the history, did it like the way barca do that this last 6 years (did brazil golden generation or cruyff's ajax, beckenbauer's bayern, milan dream team did it? I'm pretty sure there were no other top teams did it since I started watching football in 97) ... even much more weirder if you see barca history itself, I mean even when they had ronaldinho and rivaldo or even stoichkov they never be this good, and obviously it's the same la masia before, right?

who's Fuentes? their head medical staff?

 I wonder if one day someone pulled out 'amstrong' on them  what will happen to all these titles...?

and no I don't know if there's any teams in these last 6 years that out possessed ball from barca... I saw however in last euro, portugal managed to be even with spain in possession at the semi final (or was it qf?)

Fuentes is a doctor who is currently on trial for doping allegations related to Spanish cycling team. He has various blood containers with codes instead of names and they think that many may be connected with Spanish football players. Not so along ago he said if he told all he knew, Spain and Barcelona would lose trophies. But on some of the last hearings judge told him he is not obliged to tell any other clients apart from cyclists cause that's what the trial is about.

They don't.

It's a long time since I last saw Barca press with the intensity the did in the first half against Milan.

They did it regularly once upon a time, but not for a good couple of years.

How come? Whenever I watch them they press the shit out of the opposition. Teams cannot string 5-6 passes together. Every time when opponent player receives the ball he is immediately surrounded by 2-3 Barcelona players.

I googled this and it doesnt say that he mentioned Barcelona, only Spain NT. He apparently said "If I would talk, the Spanish football team would be stripped of the 2010 World Cup"....this is from wikki. If you have a quote of him mentioning Barca i would so love to read it.

Possesion is just a number and honestly its their defense. Cruyff restructured their la masia and built it around a system kind of like what the dutch do with there formation. Thats why alot of their team is from the youth. Cruyff put a big emphasis on youth and systemn play and then started developing total football. Why are they better at their system then other teams that change every few years? The way you counter is the very common debate in the soccer world of position vs possession. Basically it is saying you dont have to control the ball with possession to win the game or even be the most effective team. Also position on the field can be controled and dictated. Italian teams do this well over the history and have pulled teams forward, back, side to side while not in possesion to exploit that space when they win it. Now the debate is you need to win one of these battles.

Now in the first leg of Barca V milan Milan decided to win the position debate as its nearly impossible to win possesion against Barca. Now they let Barca have the ball but only in positions they deemed ok before tightening up and pressing them. They did this well and allowed Barca very little possesion in there final third before it was stolen or passed back.

The second leg the gaps between the midfield were pulled apart by Barca and Messi played in there and created havoc.
IMO if you want to beat Barca you have to make them play with the ball at least 40 yards out and look to either break quickly or play the ball up quickly and hold it to then move the ball as a team. The midfield presses highly so you have to play behind them to get them to retreat a bit and then play quicly

Barca are so obviously dopers. There's no way all those players can have the stamina of marathon runners naturally while being able to play football at the same time. They look the same after 115 minutes as 20 minutes in. And Messi is obviously a steroid child.

it seem ridiculously odd and weird if barca get this strong just because they restructured their academy to be more like the dutch, when the dutch themselves continue to choke all these years.

and that doesn't answer how they seem to have superior stamina and endurance over the whole planet, their ability to run, press and thus recover the ball quickly are unheard of and unseen before.

I've just read some of it and I don't like part about Juve. The writer completely neglects the fact that Agricola and Juve were absolved of all guilt in 2007. Basically he is relating our success in the 90ies with EPO. Inter part is mostly true from what I've read before. Some players from that generation died prematurely probably as late effects of illegal substances. But I agree with author that football players should be tested more frequently and not just urine but blood tests also should be included as a part of the testing.
