History, unfortunately, tells us that this is unlikely.
Assad ran the country like a mob boss, the rebels on the other hand are basically ISIS-lite by the look of things. The civil war is going to be long and bloody with all the different groups that will be up in the power vacuum.

Rebels are moving really fast, battle of Damascus is about to begin.

Btw crazy how many backed by Iran parties like Hezbollah, Syria and Hamas all are getting beaten.

One of my barbers is a Syrian refugee. Sadly his Dutch isn’t good enough to explain everything into detail but he was happy with the rebel uprising and he’s against Assad.
Israel's attack on Hezbollah basically opened up this opportunity for the rebels. Probably unintended consequence from the Israelis.

Everyone is in the awkward position where we don’t know if all the developments are good news.

Do you guys think Assad will recover from this and stay in power? His ass was in the balance some years ago, only the Russians saved him.
He will open an ophthalmology clinic near Moscow near Yanukovich's law firm. Hopefully, Orban, Le Pen, that bitch Vagenwhatever, the whole AfD and that cockucker from Romania will join them swiftly. That would be a fine settlement.

The speed of which this happened points to some sort of a deal somewhere.
Or it's just happened without any major under-the-table shenanigans. It happens too. Bush Sr. gave his Chicken Kyiv speech 3 weeks before the Ukrainian Declaration of Independence and 3-4 months before the mighty Soviet Union collapsed like a rust bucket.

Lol, at least Yanukovich is supposedly still alive somewhere in that shithole. Prigozin and now Assad got kicked off the tour.

In the summer of 2015, three Syrian girls who had narrowly survived an airstrike some weeks earlier stood before Tulsi Gabbard with horrific burns all over their bodies.

Gabbard, then a US congresswoman on a visit to the Syria-Turkey border as part of her duties for the foreign affairs committee, had a question for them.

“How do you know it was Bashar al-Assad or Russia that bombed you, and not Isis?’” she asked, according to Mouaz Moustafa, a Syrian activist who was translating her conversation with the girls.

Lol, imagine Assad getting murked a couple of months before this bitch becomes a chief spy.
