Thats the whole american dream, everyone has a chance( a 2nd, 3rd....as well). it dont matter if you're indian, polish, or nigerian. As far as bringing someone from overseas i really dont see how that bears on the people here. simple example one who already understands how the firm works and has good grasp of the material is not as costly as one how doesnt and needs training, albeit the latter being more knowledgeable. To conclude, I live, work, and socialize in the US; and i can tell you that saying americans are intellectually inferior to let's say their european counterpart is just as preposterous as it sounds. The US achieved its ascent throught its people and thats telling enough.
In conclusion:
Yes, they've achieved their ascent through their people, much like concurrent upcoming nations. That said however, I personally feel the present generation of young Americans are not as bright as their own predecessors. Which is why I dont see the US sustain its global superpower status in half a century from now.

PS: Hey, really ironical, happened to read today's paper during lunch and I read the IIT's (different from IIM's) dislodged Stanford from the #3 slot in best technology schools in the world. Dont worry though, MIT, and the Univ. of Berkeley are still top two. :)

"EVERYBODY HAPPY" only happens in the last 5 minutes of the movie.. The rest is pure, 100% Melo-drama.. :D

...and, I'd like to add, that bollywood films have gotten the reputation of being so out of this world, and so un-realistic, that if anyone tells an exaggerated story, we'd reply, "Sure, what a Bollywood film.."

;)

No offense to those who like it, though.. :D

Oh of course, that recieved a lot of flak especially in the late 80s and early 90s. Those movies were made purely for the sake of raking in money. They were tacky, had no artistic verve and were fairly whimsical in their story telling. Now, however times have changed.

Earlier, you'd be surprised Erik, you'd walk in to a disc or sit in a friend's car and you'd laugh or look down upon someone listening to bollywood hindi music. Today, that music is simply awesome. Foot tapping numbers that are screaming themselves hoarse from the turn tables of djs across India and those abroad. As well as from the cars of every tom, dick and harry. As for the movies themselves, there are still some that stick to the tried and tested family melodrama routine, but definitely in a more stylised, contemporary setting, something that even an international audience would react to. And then there's a large chunk of reality cinema filtering through, thats hard hitting and very diverse in its treatment. Both schools of thought I must say, have a distinct appeal.

And of course, that has gone a long way in promoting Bollywood to near iconic status on the global stage. Trust me, the colour, the hype, the glitz, the glamour is unparalleled in the world that recognizes this cinema.

If you're open to it, I'll even recommend a couple of movies; Black and Sarkar. I think these are two movies that define the spectrum of movie making in India, fairly well.

Yes, a generalisation of this magnitude would be unfair as Andy correctly stated, but having said that, I wouldnt exactly call the US, the intellectual capital of the world.
I'm not sure why this is even being mentioned in this discussion...no specific country can be called the intellectual capital of the world. While we do have our idiots, we also have youngsters like myself and citizens such as Swag and Nick who are very much educated and account for a good portion of our population. No country has a narrow lot filled with intellectuals and there will always be a broad spectrum of people with differing levels of intelligence...however when you generalize again that the United States is lacking in the intelligence department I'm afraid you're quite wrong. Especially when you remember that our university system is second to none in this day and age.

Well Americans aren't stupid at all they are just uneducated, or they are educated as much as they need. But again that education is enough only for the borders of USA

Alright, I might give that another try then when I have the time for it. If or when I do; I'll get back to you!

Bollywood has always been cool cheesy. I'd go to Indian restaurants in the South Bay with some friends of mine and they'd always comment about how the music they played over the speakers there reminded them of all the cheesy movies... so naturally I had to get into them.

I can't say I'm a fan of the new school Bollywood, though. Too much packaging.

Again, that does not make any sense and is just another unfortunate generalization. Those who attend the universities of this country obtain a broad education that includes topics involving other cultures and influences, as well as extensive study abroad programs. The only people who are uneducated are those who choose not to be...how can a country with the most extensive university system be uneducated?

How exactly does an opinion on a subject make you uneducated... This has no bearing on education whatsoever, People feel a certain way about the issues... Their opinion is every bit as worthwhile as anyone elses...And does not mean they are uneducated...

As for all the "did you see where he said so and so country was" ... so what... Again that has no bearing on the issues at hand and not knowing geography doesnt mean a person doesnt know the issues or that they are thick etc...

Might not agree with their views, but that doesnt make them stupid or uneducated...

But how many percent of people from USA attends universities? But man for example that things that are learnt in USA universities that you mentioned are learnt in Bosnia and in region in high schools. I think it's the same situation in the Europe
