A friend told me yesterday that they actually held open auditions for the part of superman. They don't have a script yet, and the director has changed a couple of times already. It looks like a project in serious trouble.

Superman is cool, he's fighting for the number one spot in the superhero list with Batman.

Spiderman is crap, don't know why he's popular. Those X-Men fellas don't look too special either.

I don't know about the movies (having not seen the Spiderman ones), but I think people like Spiderman because he's the alter-ego of a charactor they can identify. Peter Parker is a young guy who gets picked on by his boss, and has a crush on a pretty girl. Meanwhile, Batman is a multi-millionare, and Superman is from another planet.

Yes, but Superman is also Clark Kent, who struggles with his job, his relationship with Lois Lane and his secret identity. But I can understand that aspect of Spiderman, but as a actual superhero he falls through IMO. The spider thingy just doesn't cut it.

I'm with Torks, Clark Kent has a certain awkwardness about him when he's with Lois and not in Superman form, that I think a lot of people can relate to

Yeah, fair enough - but then I think it was you Gray who posted that Clark Kent is Superman's opinion of the human race. I guess you can argue that the angry loner side to Bruce Wayne's charactor is something a lot of people can identify with too, but I still think Parker is the most natural charactor.

As for Spiderman as a superhero, the whole moving by swinging from building to building thing annoys me. I guess it's the engineer in me, but even if I could shoot webs like that out of my wrists, and was very strong, I can't see that being anything but an immensely difficult and awkward means of travel.

Mikhail your rright about the script. But Mcg has walked out and Bryan Singer has taken over. The production crew is almost in plce, theyre eager to start shooting early november. And its been an issue with a few stars, eg. Josh hartnett has rejected the role 5 times, coz he feels hes just goin to be a prop in the movie, and people will overlook his acting skills. The bigger stars have issues, but i guess the way to go is with an unknown, and auditions are currently on. Michael Burough i think is the latest name being thrown up. And Gray, theyre shooting in Ozzieland, so u may even catch some action.
Guys about the Clark Kent Vs Peter ParkerVs Bruce Wayne, i think Clark Kent has a lot more vulnerability to him, when compared with his superhero alter ego. Peter Parker, on the other hand is not an extreme version of his superhero, simply because Spiderman too is mortal. While Bruce Wayne is probably more in the James Bond mould, hes neither vulnerable nor easily defeatable even without his powers. Neway Batman is not quite a superhero in the truest sense of the word. I think the bat is borderline evil. He's the darkest of the lot.
Supes is the essence of a superhero, coz hes got it all: chiselled good looks, awesome powers, and a body of steel.

Well ive pinned my hopes on Bryan Singer - he knows what hes doing. Although i myself think Jim Caviezel wouldve been a better choice.

    About Brandon Routh:

He looks nice, I've heard long time ago, that Nicholas Cage could have been chosen for next Superman, so that was horrible gossip, so this guy cant be any worse choice. However it's hard to imagine someone else as Superman.
But I quite liked Dean Cane as Superman in TV series.

Regarding X Men, the movies were nothing special, but the comics, my they're GREAT. I hope your post above is just based on movies and not comics. :D
