Inevitably, I can now revisit this conversation only 4 games with confirmation using the statistic you measure the quality of a defence by. (Not that it was necessary)

It was obvious that any half decent side would expose our defence the moment we contemplate playing a slightly open game.
Well, hard to make a statistical case either way when half of those games were leaky af and the other half consisted of clean sheets...

Not really, the original point I challenged was that goals conceded is the main measuring stick of the quality of a defence. 7 goals conceded in 4 games is shit.

Secondly it also backs the point that data can often be manipulated to the point you are trying to make. ie) 7 goals conceded in 4 games - there is a problem.
2 clean sheets in 4 games, all is well.

Using your eyes, brain and experience of watching the game, serves as a better guide to form an opinion/judgement.

And clean sheets in 50% of the games is great. That's about it. The sample size is too small and therefor the manipulation would simply be the ones using that to prove any point now imo.

It's not one or the other... It can and should be used in the end but not exclusively ofc.
