In my opinion, if we’re sticking with a back three, we need two top-level center backs to play alongside Bremer. Gatti, Kalulu, Savona, and Kelly just aren’t good enough for big matches. If a team wants to seriously contend for trophies, it has to have a solid defense.
Alberto Costa also isn’t starter material and if we’re going to keep playing this system, we need to sign a top right wing-back. As for the other positions, maybe we can hold off on signings for now, but these upgrades are absolutely essential.
I think our main attack with Yildiz, Conceicao, and Kolo Muani looks solid. In midfield, Thuram and Locatelli should be enough to manage for now. Cambiaso is Ok on the left, and we’re good in goal too. If we make just three key signings for the starting XI — two top-quality center-backs and a top right wing-back — I believe our first eleven can genuinely compete for the Scudetto or even make it to the final eight in Europe… that is, if Tudor doesn’t mess it up.

Our backline is a mess, not just lacking quality, but depth too. Half-assed pseudo defenders, the rest bang average or too raw. And no, Bremer won’t save the day. If anything, he’ll just get dragged down by the mediocrity poisoning what’s left of our good players.

Sign Leoni now as your rotational CB, not fucking Gatti. Bring in an experienced, athletic LCB who can actually pass the ball and a solid fullback who can cover both sides.

If management keeps ignoring the obvious problems in defense and goes for Sancho instead of activating Chico’s clause, this club’s vicious cycle of darkness will just keep spinning.

Please sign some defenders. LB, RB, LCB, CB, RCB it doesn't matter what one we need them all.

It’s really hard to find a solid LCB who is in a similar mold to Bastoni. Someone who can also carry and pass the ball. Hancko is the only one I can think of that would be reasonable.

We have already made the wrong moves and the mercato hasn’t even started yet. We should not have hired Tudor, who has this rigid back 3 system. Now we are stuck with Kelly or an expensive option which doesn’t even exist. Management already fucked us hard because we don’t have the right players for his system, and now we will spend big on getting them, including a LWB.

We are just a moronic club. Period.

Yeah, feels like we’re deep in the rabbit hole after years of mismanagement and shortsighted, reactionary decisions. Quick fixes are only making it worse.

Honestly, I can’t name many good CBs available right now. We’re starting the mercato late and don’t see to have a clear plan. But hey, maybe Damien’s data-driven strategy will magically sort it out. Wonder what his analytics say about Tudor’s setup today.

Jokes aside, a back three can be deadly when done right, but with this squad, we’re missing every key piece needed to make it work.

Hopefully that loss laid bare the issues we have. Best to get a wake up call now if we do something about it.

But also these games seem rather random, it's a weird mix between pre season friendly and an international tournament.

We are Juventus, 5 goals conceded should never ever be accepted no matter the stakes, we are not merda.

You guys. I love how innocent y’all are.
Innocence? there is a difference between enduring and accepting. Conceding 5 goals because it's a friendly, because savona is playing, because we are going through tough times etc... dont matter, should always be a big fucking deal and should solicit some a reaction, any reaction.

Nothing is going to change. Tudor will remain coach, the system won’t change, maybe we will overpay for Belardi or whatever, Sancho will bedazzle our wings. It’s business as usual and management will be happy the players arrive home next Wednesday for their holidays.

We’ve endured so much shit that it’s like some supporters have hit the acceptance stage. It’s been too long since this club started bending over with no resistance.

I get it’s a borderline friendly, but watching some of our players laughing and joking with the city players after getting violated like that was hard to stomach. Show some pride.

I’m with Gordo, that kind of humiliation needs a reaction, and it has to start with the Real game. Tudor needs to prepare like his job depends on it. One more slip, and we’re out, remembered not for competing but for getting embarrassed. Hell even your mercato outcome could depend on it, your image as a competitive club, your footballing philosophy, your ambition for next season. And in our case, sadly, every million counts.

Also, we’re trying to sell weah and mbangula (which is fucking ridiculous for the latter), so why not give them proper minutes in the first two games instead of experimenting against City with players who couldn’t survive a gust of wind.

If we hadn't bought Kelly, there would have been room for a defender in the summer, but now there is no space for another defender in the roster.

Probably our best case scenario for this summer mercatto is to find a way to somehow sell the likes of Kelly for whatever we can still recoup and replace him with a proper starting quality CB.

Heck i’d even sell some of our surplus to requirements CM’s asap and redirect all the money towards fixing and improving our defense.

In the golden days, no doubt we’d take lessons from this game and look to remediate it as soon as possible.

I’ll use the example of us losing (comfortably) against Bayern in the 2012/13 CL QFs. We had a great team from goalkeeper, to defence to midfield. But our attack at an elite level was nowhere good enough to have us compete with Europe’s best (Matri/Quags/Vucinic/Giovinco)

So what did we do for the following season? We brought in Tevez and Llorente (and a year later a young Morata) and within two seasons, we were in a CL final.

These days, we sign players based on whose agent they have, overhyoed clowns from Atalanta or Fiorentina, “market opportunities” or if they’re a former hyped name from the past looking for a payday. There is no proper squad planning going on anymore.
