Most rumors actually says it’s close(although not all of the reliable journos) but apparently we’re trying to lower the price a bit, and the Sporting CP president also spoke a couple of hours ago saying that he is not open to selling Gyokeres at a discount despite the agents pressure…

My personal opinion? I think it’s far from done, not even close... But i do believe that Juventus is interested and inquiring.

@s4tch how do you phonetically pronounce his name, as a Hungarian? Is it more "yek-eres". At Cov we just said "yok-eres".
i heard romano saying it pretty accurately in a recent video.

this is terrible though. it's not yok-eresh, the "gy" sound doesn't exist in english or any other western language i can think of, it's a harder sound. "gy" is btw one letter in the hungarian alphabet, and is pronounced the same way as in magyar

ö is a similar ö as in german, like rudi völler or "oe" in oeuf in french

i'll try to find a more authentic attempt

okay, this is a native hungarian journalist speaking here: https://youtube.com/shorts/kbfGFaXbDbw?si=vJf3K2cOZUB0amUt

The complications I've seen are that he was promised last summer that they'd let him leave drastically below his release clause. I've seen reports of 50m was what was agreed to let him leave. I doubt that and it might just be agent rumors to spoil the player against his club but it is what it is.

Closest in English you'll get to that really is "yuk-eresh", we don't have a few of those sounds.

I'm really torn on Gyokeres. We need a matador type striker like that up front, haven't had anyone like that since Tevez. He's relentless, works great front to back in transition. I just worry how well he would do coming into Serie A and to a team that is still a work in progress. I feel like he suits other leagues better. I've said before that I'm not sure he's a clinical finisher but creates so much for himself and others.

I also don't see him coming here. Although he's not u23 and French, so Chelsea will probably leave him alone.

Juventus are ready to say goodbye to Lloyd Kelly. The English defender has not convinced the Bianconeri ownership who hope to clean up the mess left by Giuntoli. Juve hope to make a profit on the sale of Kelly.

I doubt they’ll be able to sell him but I’d also be surprised if he didnt leave this summer. Loaned until eternity. At least his wages aren’t bad.

This also vibes with the rumors that Sporting Lisbon has gone back on their word to the player's group on the transfer fee demands.
We'll just do the scoping and 'discussing' work until a richer club comes in with a substantial bid and snatches him away right under noses.

I dont think we have that much of a chance here either way. Targets like Gyokeres/Osimhen are the Aguero/Van Persie of 2025.

David and Retegui are the realistic targets. Maybe one of Hojlund/Castro if they prove to be expensive as well. (There's always a Plan C - C for Cheaper) :beppe:

I agree 100%.

The only way we get a Gyokeres is if he get him 2-3 years before he pops. Like we tried on Haaland.

And we should be thinking like that more.

I'm not convinced on him at all. He looks like a guy too strong for the league he is in but lacks the technique for the step to a higher league.

He seems like a Jackson Martinez type who was all power and explosiveness in Portugal and couldn't translate it to a tougher league.

For 70m he's way too big a risk for us with a squad to fix.

My data says I don't like those names.
Nuno Tavares could be fantastic signing. Been best left wingback in league last season.

Not too keen on Fratesi. Just alright b2b goal threat.

Castro haven't seen much, considered promising but his numbers aren't eye popping.

Balerdi I don't know except by name and position. Probably rumour because Tudor coached him in Marseille.

A list of ST that performed in Portuguese League but failed in other big league. List is long from Darwin Nunez, Jackson Martinez, Bas Dost, Carlos Vinicius, Seferovic, Hulk, and the latest Mehdi Taremi. I just know he was 2 times top scorer there with Porto and Rio Ave. Even Mario Jardel (Porto) wasn't quite succesful outside Portuguese League.

We shouldnt over optimistic if the price is expensive. There is reason Man Utd (Amorim) focus for Cunha and Mbeumo before him.

I also prefer we look for creative or profilic winger first before ST. Nowadays players like Kvara, Dembele, Doue, Yamal, Olise, Raphinha, Vinicius is a game changer. Cunha and Mbeumo also a player who can make something happen (goal/assist) as a winger

He scored 100 goals in two seasons in a pretty strong league; it's a no brainer really for the money that's being reported. If he fails, he fails nothing you can do about it.
