talian football is joining forces to reintroduce the Growth Decree , the tax measure not confirmed by the current Meloni government , which allowed football clubs to halve the gross outlay on the hiring of players from abroad.
As reported in today's edition of Tuttosport , the re-election of Gabriele Gravina as president of the FIGC aims to allow a renewed dialogue between the federal components, after more than one clash in the recent past. And precisely on the occasion of the confirmation of the number one of the Football Federation, on the subject of the Growth Decree, an important opening arrived from Umberto Calcagno , president of the Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) , who has always been against the application of this decree.
The position on which Calcagno is willing to give his approval concerns only players considered top-tier , in other words those who would not influence in any way the formation of Italian footballers. Obviously it will be necessary to go through the government which should reintroduce a measure, specifically formulated, in record time given that the Serie A clubs want the tax advantages starting from the next summer transfer window, which will begin on July 1, 2025 .
Said of the Growth Decree, the new governance of Italian football, at all levels, seems to be ready to work together with a basic agreement also on other issues: a tax credit on structural investments, starting from those on youth sectors, very dear to all professional leagues. As regards the intricate situation of stadiums, the government also seems to be totally supportive.
On this point, the president of the Lega Serie A , Ezio Maria Simonelli , hoped for the appointment of a single commissioner . While Gravina declared: « We have moved too far away from international standards, what is holding back enthusiasm is the bureaucratic obstacle ». The FIGC president himself then shared the idea of a single commissioner.
Among the objectives is to make the current ones safer , also by attributing to the fourth man the qualification of public official : « It is a proposal shared with the ministers Piantedosi and Abodi – declared the federal president – it would help to fight certain acts of violence ».
The reform of the championships is always present, even if more in the background : it hasn't been discussed for a long time but, in the climate of great harmony, it is one of those challenges where we can work together, even within the same leagues, just think of the A where the big teams would welcome the reduction in the number of teams.
