We should go 3241 a la Maresca / Pep / Arsenal

MDG
Kalulu Bremer LCB
McKennie Loca
Chico Yildiz Thuram Cambiaso
David

LCB should be a ball playing CB or a CB/FB hybrid. Just keep it simple in midfield and make sure they pass the ball to the wingers who can take on players 1 vs 1. Yildiz and Thuram can make runs in the box and David plays a false 9/combining in the box. Koop and Douglas could play as well in this formation

When defending it becomes a 442
McKennie Kalulu Bremer LCB
Chico Thuram Loca Cambi
Yildiz David

He's not.

He had one excellent season playing for a team that dominates in a farmers league and had an underwhelming season after getting his move to Brighton.

He's not suited to the midfield 2 we play and not good enough for one of the roles behind the striker. Tactically it is another Koop.
Has he been shite at Brighton?

I said at the time we should sign Frimpong and everybody laughed because he wasn't good enough since he'd only done well at Celtic. Now he's at a top team. VVD did similar - moving through a stepping stone club on his way to the top. Players who shine in Scotland (and in the Champions League) are capable of making the jump. I'm genuinely surprised Bassey from Rangers hasn't made it.

I've not seen O'Riley in England and I'm the biggest idiot on here but if we're signing a CM we could do a lot worse though the Koopmeiners comparison is pretty spot on: he's got the passing but not the running to be a Locatelli sub.

Good player but I don't think he fits what we're doing.

We've tried some of this before giving lots of running to Connie and there's no point. He needs to focus on the final 3rd. Similarly Cambiaso wouldn't be able to cope with this. He'd be dead after 20 minutes.

Also McKennie and Thuram are in the wrong places and if we're doing this surely it's a setup which Koop should do well, at least on paper.

don't check o'reilly's fbref. fucking underwhelming

most of the jj related rumors are complete fabrications. that said, if we're really targeting some of these players then club needs a complete reset
It's an environmentally friendly recycled rumour.

I knew we are broke and there was not much to be expected, but I wonder what our Mercato would have looked like without finishing 4th and no CWC - I guess no Chico and we would have sold Yildiz already this summer.

No LCB, no wingback, no CM is a shame - we haven’t even secured Kolo

MDG
Savona Bremer Kalulu Cambiaso
Koop Locatelli Thuram
Chico Yildiz
David (preferably a new striker)

Savona will more or less form a back three in possession, focus on cover gaps and help avoid counterattacks rather than attacking space.
Cambiaso to roam pockets
Koop is the question mark - I would rather have a creative player here, someone that can help in the build up but also feed in the final third with his vision and passing ability
Loca to stabilize the ship
Thuram to bulldoze
Chico needs to stick wide since Savona will not push up, in order to stretch the opposition and offer alternative
Yildiz can roam left and center, he and Cambiaso can help out with width and with progression inside
David to press and help in build up.

Teach the team that all crosses need to be hard and low.
With this setup we don't need to find a new CB, Gatti will be the rotational option. Koop can finally play in his natural role and really be tested for his capabilities.

It’s ok Rugani, Cabal, Kostic and Miretti will be like new signings.

It's heartbraking to see what our different managers for the past years have been able to accomplish. They visualize how when you stink at your job, it really comes back to bite your ass - and your successors. How one error can be annoying but when it is part of the job description to do bad deals over and over...
Rovella, signed for 26m, sold for 17
Costa 14m, sold for 15m
Sold Fagioli for 13m, Kean somewhere close, who we recently bought back for 30m. Finally sold Chiesa for a bag of potatos.
Huijsen............................. Kulusevski sold for 30m, Dragusin 10m, Romero 17m, Demiral for 21m, Rabiot along with so many others have been released for free.

Signed Koop for almost 60m and Douglas for 51m, Nico for something crazy, Kelly for 20(?)m, we spent 10m to get Chico on LOAN

The good signings seem more like random fluke deals, Kalulu, Thuram, Bremer, and Cambiaso they stick out. Danilo, MDG, Perin and Emre Can to some extent too.
Chico is a decent signing but a terrible setup for it, Adzic is too early to tell. Kolo was a terrible deal that should have been more manageable. Kostic can hardly count as a good signing after having the entire team set up to get him to cross for an entire year. Once the set up was no longer there, he became rubbish. ADM was OK given he was "free". Zakaria was an OK signing, not what we needed though. McKennie, difficult to say.

I haven't even touched players like Arthur, Ramsey and Paredes.

If you have a track record of terrible deals, it will eventually haunt you. The mistakes are a lot more common than the right decisions.

lol 30 mill based off what? a good season with celtic but a crap one with Brighton?
Signing Celtic players makes me almost as nervous as Atalanta players. He is a good player though.

Am I the only one who actually prefers were aren't spending 150m on 5 players to change most of the team again? We need a couple of additions but I'm not really interested in winning the mercato league. Every time we make big changes we seem to get worse.

I think we need at least 1 player in each department

CB - Rugani
LCB - Cabal
CM - Miretti
LWB - Kostic

We set
In all seriousness, we have a deficiency with an able left footed defender, but too many right footed defenders
Need a physical pure defensive mid to unlock Thuram
And a striker

Minimum!

Kalulu is hugely overrated - He is ok but definitely far away from being great.
Thuram is class and I cant call him a fluke.
Bremer was Serie A top defender so cant say its a fluke either.
Cambiasso is overrated in my books - He can contribute to possession and build up play but his defensive game is weak.
Conceicao could be considered as a fluke that sticked out - His deal - I cant really say something about it as we could have splashed 30M on him but decided to test him before making the move - I can understand the "waste of funds" for this one.

P.S Rovella - I honestly never understood why he didnt get a proper chance - Our midfield looked like crap and he was definitely on par. He could be stronger defensively but he is actually the type we are missing now..
Hujsen - Its a stupid move that all are aware of - Capello kind of summed it perfectly - You dont become great over night...

Fagioli - No regrets should be for this one - He got his chances and failed.
Kelly was obviously the definition of a retarded deal - The guy wasnt even a starter at Newcastle..

Kulu I liked him but it was the right thing to do
Kean - I never wanted him gone even if he did fail to score at his last season here. He did show good movement and his salary wasnt exactly as high as Vlahovic...

He's not imo. Playing him, would mean we either get worse on the defensive side or the attacking one. Depending who we bench to accomodate him.

Pretty much agree on all the rest 'though.
