Why do you keep saying this? Based on his Euro 2020 Italy performance? Because he played as a deep lying playmaker for Sassuolo under De Zerbi and played exceptionally well in the role which is a big part of why we bought him. He also played quite well in the role here up until his injury last year. He’s not performing at the moment, but that is in large part due to this team being a complete mess.

Of course it’s fine to think he’d be even better played further forward, but let’s stop pretending he’s never played deep before and performed well at it. That’s nonsense.
I like him a lot and want to see him perform well, and in turn the club then performs well. From what I recall, and I could be wrong, his worst games for us have been as a regista. He's a good player, so he could perform anywhere in midfield most likely, but I'd rather put him where the chance of success is the highest. Sassuolo have a working system, that of course makes playing in any position there easier to do, while we.....lets say don't. I'm sure Vlahovic would appreciate him being closer too.

Everything and everyone is bad now apparently after last game (guessing there was more optimism after first matchday).

While some are mourning in silence, others are letting their feels known. But none will forgive Allegri's treachery easily.
Let Allegri choose our starting 11 and the meltdown is ready (and rightly so).

Allegri fooled some people last year into thinking that's the best we can do

The new realizations and cumulations of the holy Trinity of lineups/tactics, squad (however over- or under-valuated), and top shelf butchery resulting in historic volcanic eruptions. Even Pinsoglio may not be safe.

He wasn't the deeper of the two CMs at Sassuolo. He was the one who ran forward, the more advanced of the two.

I remember asking why he was being branded a regista when he was the second CM at Sassuolo. Regista is a secondary role for him.

How much does Atletico want, isn't he expensive?
That’s not true from when I watched them play. And from every analysis of him that I read from before we bought him. He was the Deep lying playmaker and received the ball from the CBs and then progressed it forward. Which he was fantastic at.

Agreed. I like him in both roles and think he can be top class. If you look at what he did at Sassuolo and analysis of it, he was the best progressive + long ball passer of mids in Serie A. Here, since midwinter last season he looks out of form and with no idea of what he’s meant to be doing. That’s on the coach for tactics and on management for not surrounding him with decent players to have him succeed.

I guess we’ll get a better idea of what he can be for us when Pogba is back and if Allegri has the balls to ever bench Rabiot and play one of our youngsters, either Rovella and move Locatelli forward or Miretti/Fagioli and keep him deep.

On paper we don’t have to count injuries and we can pretend everyone is still in their prime, right?
I don't know how on paper works, we used to have experts here. But I guess on paper has to mean injury free at least. Prime? Maybe. Form is important but I don't know how it can be counted on paper.
