As I said above, I am ok with old wingers for a season simply because we need to replace so many players and i doubt we have the funds to make signings in all these areas.

We need at least two possibly three attackers, one top quality CM (plus rovella and fagioli) a LB and a CB.

I know the club has been targetting quality youth lately (locatelli, chiesa, kulu) but we can't afford to make five signings of that quality in one window so why not fill a few of those positions with short term bosmans?? Signing Di maria and Perisic on frees allows us to dump cash on players like bremer, udogie and SMS. Then, next summer, with most of the squad in place, replace Di maria and Perisic.

I was talking about the wingers we're targeting, not the one we already have. Cuads, Di Maria and Perishit are over a 100 years old (combined).
Meh. I don’t mind Di Maria and Perisic on two year contracts. That goes to the next World Cup, which means both will be motivated to play well.

Ideally I’d go for just one of them, but with Chiesa returning from an ACL having two older wingers come in on short contracts wouldn’t be so bad at all, on a free it’s great.

I think you’re ignoring how many needs this team has. CM, LB, CB. All huge needs that we need to fix. If we can sign younger, high potential players in those three spots by saving money on not splurging on young world class wingers who cost a fortune this summer, that’s 100% the way to go imo

exactly this. It just makes sense.

spend all the money on long term quality to cover CM, LB and CB.

I never liked him. Very limited player, but he got better with age. Anyway signing Di Maria and Perisic is pathetic and a no-go for me.
Perisic is not the most talented, but he's one of the most versatile forwards and two footed, and is great off the ball. His WC in 2018 was a thing of beauty, he Mandzukic and Rebic together was a joy to watch. For 2 years and not too much money, I'd take him. If that means we can fix the defense and midfield, him, Di Maria and Chiesa when he's back can carry the next season out. Then we look for a young guy like Antony is this season. @BayernFan still misses Perisic I'm sure

I wouldn't call him limited. Not by Serie A standards at the least.

If that gives us room to really invest in midfield, I'm fine with it. When Chiesa returns, Peri would get benched anyway.

:agree:

We keep papering over the cracks in the rest of the squad with big money attacking signings. I’d prefer we do the opposite finally this summer. As long as Di Maria and Perisic aren’t on long contracts they’d be great signings if it helps us invest on other needs.

I'm ok with it, as long as both deals are, maximum, two year deals, and neither player gets a salary exceeding 6 million (in Perisic's case, 5 should be as high as we go). I also don't think we can use the growth decree unless it's a two year contract (possibly three), but I could be wrong.

That 1 million extra for each, as reported won't cripple us ;)

Only if de ligt leaves we have so many holes to fill even morata is not certainty so we might need two forwards.
Mandragora and Demiral will get us some money.

Udogie, SMS and a CB (Badiashile or Milenkovic - I think Bremer is going to Inter). Sure, that will necessitate that we spend circa 100 million, but we have assets that we can use, and we're losing Dybala's and Turdeski's wages, not to mention that Ronaldo is already off the wage bill, and the amateur golfer and the malignant french malaise will be gone by the summer of 2023 at the latest.

Completely agree. Perisic is a very underappreciated player and would be great for a couple of years. There are very few wingers that are as two-footed as he is. We still don't know how soon Chiesa will be back to his full best and this will be a great stopgap in the meantime.

Our interest in players like Di Maria and Perisic indicates to me that our main focus this summer is going to be reinforcing midfield and LB, which I fully stand behind.
