I think signing a top young fullback (the transfer fee and wages required) would require us selling Sandro or Danilo/Cuadrado.
But why? We're likely to get a bigger fee for selling Pelle than we would from AS or Cuads - 15 to 20M seems reasonable.

Throw in another 20M and we can afford someone decent. Not that we don't have money, if it's true that we're after Paredes.

Then why did we renew De Sciglio?
Because he’s a cheap, decent backup for both sides. He’s not starter material, but he’s definitely a fine backup.

There’s no way Pellegrini is worth 15-20m. Maybe 5 mil. It’s not the fee anyways. It’s the big wages we pay Sandro that are the problem. I’m fine with our RB side for now. Danilo is super underrated here on Tuz. Him and Cuadrado with MdS in a pinch is just dandy.

our LB position is a mess. We should really try to get rid of both Sandro and Pellegrini and sign a top class LB. I just don’t see it happening til next summer. Maybe if it becomes a dire need we may see it in January. Can’t wait to get Sandro’s contract off our books.

One year of Alex Sandro's wages should not prevent us from getting another LB imo. I mean, we just sold De Ligt.

We bought Cambiaso to loan him out. We're after Paredes for a position less dire than LB. It's not that we don't have the money, it may just not be a priority in mgmt's eyes.

Well, from everything being reported here in this thread, it’s not that we don’t have money to buy players, it’s that we are no willing to buy players without players leaving in the same positions. Our squad is too big and bloated and we still have too many high earners contributing nothing. So unless we get rid of Sandro/Pellegrini/Cuadrado we aren’t signing any FBs. And Sandro’s big wages are probably the biggest factor in not signing a top class FB on the wages they will demand.

I doubt our management sees our LB position as in good shape.

That's why I'm saying sell Pellegrini :D

Oh, I don’t have a problem with that, I’d love to see it, but I see selling Pellegrini as meaning Cambiaso would have stayed here this year. To get a good LB I’d imagine we’d have to sell Sandro. I doubt we moving on Pellegrini’s minimal wages and signing another LB on Sandro level wages.

It’s like you’re ignoring that they are trying to keep wages down in the squad.

No, I am aware of the wage issue.

We do not need someone on massive wages. Someone on 4M a year is not going to kill us, considering how much we freed up with Ronaldo, De Ligt, Dybala and Berna leaving (Di Maria and Pogba in).

Just don't tell me we can't afford a young cheap LB to compete with AS and then go and buy Paredes and give him 6M or more a year. It does not add up.

Cambiaso was the young cheap LB. We decided he’s not ready yet. You’re forgetting Bremer too as his wages are high. Vlahovic too for that matter.

We just disagree here. Everyone who has come in so far has been like for like. Including in terms of wage replacement. We aren’t selling Pellegrini and replacing him with a Udogie type with a 20-30 mil transfer fee and on 4 mil net.

And why do you keep saying Paredes like it’s a fact? It’s a rumour. And if it does happen it’s directly linked to moving Arthur out. Same position, similar wages.

It's hypothetical.

You are telling me what we are doing, I'm telling you what we can do.

If Arthur leaves it doesn't mean we have to get a CM, we can get anyone in any position and it will make no difference in the wage budget.

Anyway I don't feel like going on :p

I'm sure the mgmt is doing what they can, this is just for Tuz who keeps asking for everything except a new LB like its an impossible task. But it's really just the usual rationalization that happens every summer

The current state of the LBs in the team is completely absurd. There's no defense for that.
it's not quality but neither necessity right now.
Next summer we're gonna get new LB's and RB's giving that Cuadrado and Sandro are leaving.
Right now we need to get stronger in midfield and get a proper LW

Exactly. So this is pointless discussion.
