Pirlo was the specialist in that midfield, yes. Pure playmaker. But if given the choice between a pure playmaker and a pure DM, I'd much rather watch the playmaker. Pirlo v Kante is no contest for me tbh.

I was hinting at your alignment with modern football teams not wanting specialists, and then pointing out that your favorite midfield in recent memory is basically one built around a specialist.

Kante is no Vidal, but he is wins balls and runs for 2 people like Vidal did defensively, and that would free up Pjanic and ALL our attackers so much if we had that element in our team. We have that for Matutidi now, and he is useful tactical element in terms of pressuring runs, but his ball winning is too lacking for the technical limitations he has for us. WAY behind a Vidal or Kante in that aspect.
:agree:

you dont bring Kante to watch him play. you bring him so all the exciting players can play much better.

Yeah, I can understand that much. He's essentially also not really my type of player. Like you say, teams in the modern game don't want specialists like him anymore. I think the midfield I liked best in recent years was Pogba-Vidal-Pirlo. That was a thing of absolute beauty. For me a player like Kante prevents that.
I mean pure defensive midfielders. But the same goes for playmakers these days. You won't see a Riquelme for example.

Playing a Riquelme or Pirlo today requires a prima Vidal/Kante if they are to function. I doesnt have to be either or.

Chelsea fell apart as a team, it was foolish to sell Matic and not replace him, AND MORE KEY was getting rid of Diego Costa who saved them in defensive games, and rely on Morata. Kante had fantastic season despite the weak overall Chelsea season, and has 2 league titles in his first 3 EPL seasons, while being key reasons for both titles, I'm sure he is hurting right now. And thats defenitely better then bragging about being 2nd place with a mediocre Man United who finished dozens pts behind City.

Khedira has NOT been a factor in CL for us, he can be useful in joining attacks on occasion, but his work rate, ball winning, passing, they are ALL passenger levels for us, you cannot have a starter who goes through the motions and is the biggiest example of the biggiest weakness we have had for years, our weak midfield. Kante would be MUCH better in our midfield, and we would play 3 man midfield with him there, not two.

Name a DM who is better ball winner then Kante, who runs and intercepts even close the amount he does. He would free up our more technical creative players by FAR. Pjanic is held back and put into difficult positions because he plays with Khedira, would not be the case if he was next to Kante. Bad joke to pretend Khedira, as serviceable he can be as b2b player, is anything close to an asset for our midfield...

And stop mentionning Lemina, he is not a factor whatsoever in top football, he is a mere rotation player in a small english team. He has no bussiness being named in this context, only reason I brought it up is to laugh at you for saying what you did years ago, its STILL hilarious because you still believe the same nonsense.

Indeed. Perfect holding DM indeed for a title winning team, tho doesnt mean as much balls, is more of a holding DM, but he is a strong custodian type for sure.
Witsel would have been perfect to play that role for us. But he decided to be a cunt and weaken my NT in the process.

Speaking of Belgian midfielders, I still hope we'll get Tielemans one day. We could turn him into a more polite Radja.

Lol love the idea of a more polite Naiingolan

I know rumors are we might terminate Marchisio as a gesture of good faith, but maybe use him for a Tielemans deal? That being said I wouldn't want us to lose Marchisio unless it's his choice to leave, which seems to be the case since Allegri considers him worse than Stu

It's who he is. He has the same qualities, but he's more educated. He needs a bit of tactical schooling though.

Witsel is the definition of mediocre.

Hope Tielemans pans out, would love to see him in Juve colours if so.

Same qualities? I know Radja improved his attacking skills past years, but Tielemans is pure technical playmaker no? Who has some explosive box to box qualities and rocket shot like Radja, but they dont exactly scream same player to me.

Witsel is a player who needs moulding. We're a great team for doing so.

I think Tielemans will always become a good player, but Juve could make him a great one.

No, Tielemans is insanely strong on his feet. Did a lot of judo as a kid apparently. I guarantee you if he comes to Italy they turn him into Radja 2.0.

But imo he needs to make that move sooner rather than later. Monaco was a step up, but they don't create that same battle mentality.

I see a more creative Seedorf when I see him, not Nainggolan.
He actually does remind a bit of Seedorf now that you mention it.

But his physical qualities are similar to Radja's. Which is why I'd like to see him in that role.

Radja's probably slightly more dynamic though.

oh so losing Diego Costa was the key? guess he was their MVP after all, right? player of the season is a joke award, that you even take it seriously and as some measurement in player quality is ridiculous. so lets get this straight, they lose Matic and Costa, fine huge loss. but finishing 5th? same coach, same roster, - 2 players. they finish with 23! less points than the year before? one would think a player of the season would atleast be able to hold the team a little bit, and atleast decrease the impact of losing "only" 2 important players. but its OK as long as he runs so much i guess.

im gonna skip over the Khedira part, you straight out hating. not even giving credit for his Madrid performances. and yes, we would play 3 man midfield with Kante, Pjanic and who? this is the 2016/17 season we are talking about. who plays on the wings, whos the striker? who is our 2nd btb next to Kante? please atleast take a moment to understand the context before spouting nonsense.

Casemiro is the best DM in the game, easily. in the EPL, best DM is Matic. and you again with Khedira. weird how Allegri still plays him, despite getting a better player in Matuidi as replacement, but you think hes a not factor. maybe, i dont know, you dont know as much about football as you think after all?

so lets see, YOU mention me next to Lemina in a reply to a post thats not about Lemina, and then you tell me to stop mentioning Lemina? tell me Osman, what do you want from me? i dont have time for "angry, former uber bitch thats now my wife getting insulted that i forgot when her stupid dog died" games

The man has a point.

Can't we all just agree that regardless of past potential Lemina clearly is never going to be good enough?
