I don't know about Godin. Atletico has no reason to ask for him much less than what we'll get for Benatia. Also Rugani is in his 4th season here - I think its about time he takes his place.

What will Godin be here? Rotational player or 30+ starts a year?

Unless Barza is leaving...
We have Caldara, Rugani, Benatia, Chiellini and Howedes (?). I don't think they'll take another CD.

I legitimately think we'll be a CL contender next season if we get Godin
Well that is a bit wishful thinking. I admit I don't know him too well, but even if he is Ramos on steroids we have much larger issues in midfield. And by larger I do mean a lot more expensive too.
If we are trying to replace Mandzukic with a similar/better player - my, oh my, we gonna need a lot more cash. I reckon those are more important especially for CL games.

Godin is a top, top player PLUS he's the captain of the Uruguay team. Outstanding defensive skills plus leadership qualities? Sounds ideal for us, especially when we're losing a few important pieces this year.

I'm also happy to hear we'll be adding a few Italians to the squad this summer. I think we can all agree it's nice to see a lot of vowels in our starting lineups.

I do agree. But if there is an opportunity to be upgrade on our defense which there potentially could be since Benatia hasnt committed totally to his future here, then we should do it IMO.

Really? For me it's more down to what happens with our midfield and with our fullbacks.
I dont know about fullbacks. Maybe acceptable quality should do as we dont have the budget for so many positions. But definitely agree on the midfield.

I would argue our defense hasnt been the same last year especially in Europe. Getting a warrior like him would be huge IMO.

He'd be too good an opportunity to pass up - we should definitely sign him if he's available.

That being said, what stops us from walking the Champions League isn't our defence. While, as I've just said, Godin would help plaster over the leadership vaccuum left by Gigi on the pitch I'm more concerned about our midfield and our strikers not clicking perfectly. Hopefully Pjanic, Matuidi and Can can call click and start doing a great job as a midfield 3 but up front we'd have to bench one of Costa, Dybala, Higgers or Bernardeschi. I know which one I'd rather dump but he's the most expensive player in our history (not to mention deadly in front of goal)....

He's French(Moroccon) bro. Rudi Garcia is his ex-coach
I know that but that would be like near prime Nedved asking to go back to Lazio or Camoranesi asking to go back to Verona. Doesn't seem logical in his prime years to take a step back simply so he can speak french and have an average coach.

lol that's what I'm trying to figure out.

rumours ok but why would we sell back there unless Benatia really wants to leave.

BUT why would he want to leave? I don't get it. He mad at Max?

Wasnt he dropped for a number of games recently ?

    I get a Bonucci-esque feel with this

Like Bonucci wanted to go to Milan and play under an 'average' coach....

That's largely different considering the guys disgusting public fall out with Allegri.

Not to mention, he wanted to stay in Italy because of his son/family. Only team that could probably afford him with their stupid spending. Bonucci didn't go there for their coach and to speak his native tongue.
