It's 20-25 flushed down the toilet. Totally unnecessary purchase. Caldara is coming back next season anyway; if things are dire in January, just bring him back six months early. I don't like buying old geezers in defense, thus limiting Rugani's chances. De Vrij is also available on a free come season's end. No need to waste 20-25 million on a guy we might not use that much, and then struggle to dispose of in the future. Loan + Option for someone like Garay is ok; anything beyond that is foolish.

Barzagli can still play some Serie A and Coppa games, Benatia can cover if needed, and Chiellini and Rugani as starters in a 4 man defense is ample cover, for now!

But out of four defender three are injury prone

Come on man it most definitely not flushed down the toilet. We have only 4 defenders 3 of which have shown to be injury prone in the past. Allegri may at times want to revert to a 3 man backline. Not to mention this could be Barzagli's last season at the club and hopefully Benatia too.

Why Garay then? Recall Caldara early. Go for De Vrij. Instead of a stop gap solution, find someone who'll be here for the long haul, and not someone we'll struggle to get rid of in 12 months.

Rugani is already starting. I dont think Allegri wants to start potentially 2 inexperienced defenders. Caldara if he plays for Atalanta, will still start. And gain experience through playing.

Next summer Barzagli might retire, so he would have more chances to play if we bring him back next year.

Garay makes sense cause he has experience, and Chiellini has injury issues recent seasons and Benatia has them too. So right now that leaves us with Barzagli who looks old now and Rugani who doesnt have enough experience.

I dont think its that easy to get De Vrij right now, also one can argue he is even more of an issue for Caldara long term, cause De Vrij is 25 years old.

Well there arent too many defenders today. Caldara is stuck at Atalanta and De Vrij is stuck with crazy lotito. I think this will work out well for us. Next season we will sign someone for the long haul.

Caldara, Rugani, Chiellini, and De Vrij for next season. Benatia goes to Marseilla and Barzagli retires. Chiellini will gradually get less and less game time as he ages, and the other 3 defenders can rotate. I don't see a potential issue in having that sort of depth in central defense :D

It is hard enough to get spinazzola from Atlanta let alone caldara

Yup :agree:

Chiellini almost begged the board to get a new defender in his interview in late July and he more or less mentioned the same reasons as you. He also thinks that Barzagli, Benatia and himself will need to rest throughout the season. With this he obviously wants to say that due to their age and even due to the injury proneness they could miss a lot of matches and we might find ourselves in a situation where we will have 2, or God forbid, only 1 healthy CB at certain points of the season. And if we do get a defender, it's less risky to get an experienced one who might be a stop gap for 2 or at most 3 seasons. In a tactical league like serie A where the accent is so hard on the defense, they don't take risks with young defenders, so expect an experienced one.

Dont you sometimes read your posts and thing "damn son, i'm so good at stating something outrageous , and then spend the second sentence explaining why its batshit stupid" ?

lets see

Barzagli, Benatia, Chiellini : amazing defenders, but injury and age will see them beeing out alot
Rugani : Amazing potential, allready good, inexperienced as shit for now, but not in 1-3 seasons

Caldara ? Also amazing potential, allready good and inexperienced as shit for now, but not in 1-3 seasons

Garay : great defender, NOT prone to injurt, but old and will fade out in 2 seasons

Lets consider this radicalised insane idea : We use the old not injuryprone defender to make sure we are covered untill Rugani and Caldara are experienced enough to go on

But wait. You allready said that.
