Wow. There's an Italian player you don't rate, Astori must really suck
I don't rate all Italian players. I just think that a strong domestic strategy is important. Also I'd be fine with Astori if he was a bench player, but not as a replacement for Bonucci. Also, I find that in Italy promising players are given chances much later due to the conservative nature of coaching where avoiding mistakes is the number one priority.
Ideally for me:
- The base of the team is Italian, constructed of the best players in each position that are good enough for Juventus. If two players are equal, go Italian. If one player is better but international, but the other has similar potential is domestic, but not as far on the development curve, go domestic.
- Where players good enough for Juventus cannot be found or are impossible to acquire, international players should be put in that position. For example: Leftback and Midfield. Other than Verratti, the remaining midfield talent is either past its prime (De Rossi, Marchisio), too raw to play in the 11 (Gagliardini, Pellegrini), or not good enough (Parolo).
- The bench should be a mix of young domestic players, and veterans with good personalities, primarily Italian.
Also, it is crucial to keep the core of teams together over multiple years, like Bayern. Annual shake-ups are dangerous. At least that's how I prefer my teams.
Just to be clear: THE LAST THING I'D WANT is a team with a starting 11 that includes: Parolo, Montolivo, Astori, Abate, Criscito, and Immobile.
