Who would Motta be able to.put out there as a false 9 in the event that Milik does what he does, which is to get injured again

I think Nico and Yildiz.

Nico has nice finishing and heading. In the case of Yildiz, there's a debate that he will be the perfect forward for Motta's system.

Milik had 8 or 9 goals as backup striker with limited playing time last season. Came in end of games and scored some needed last minute goals sometimes.


I want someone better but he was OK backup.

Backup striker shouldn't be a priority in a big upheaval transfer market. It's just a backup. While Sancho could be a key starting left winger if we get him.


If we can find an opportunity to move on Milik and find someone else yes do it. But it shouldn't be as urgent as a boost in quality LW. And Milik would be main backup, but even if I'm not fond of False 9s lack of presence in box, Yildiz and Nico G are capable to do that role in the minutes Kean used to get. And Mottas system thrives on false 9 role as we seen in Bologna so it's approach that's uniquely fit for it.

I can live with milik staying this season, I just don't trust him to be readily available when called upon and given we will be fighting on multiple fronts this season.

A back up striker is rarely ever going to increase the quality all that much, not unless we look back to the days of when we had the likes of Di Vaio riding the bench, I would feel a bit more confident going into this season with a capable and reliable enough backup. We will have to see about these false 9 options, personally I'm never sold on the idea.

Haaland doesn't have a backup, Lewandowski doesn't have a backup, Liverpool have Nunez and a winger in Jota. Arsenal Jesus and an AM starting as CF in Havertz. Chelsea only have Jackson. Bayern probably have one of the more talented backup CFs in Tel, tho Kane plays so much Tel plays winger alot. Man U just bought their 2nd CF in entire squad in Zirkzee (besides injured Hojlund). Tho they use Bruno up top now.

In general seems top teams tend to strict themselves to one nr 9, at rare times a real backup nr 9. Rest of the type use false 9s.

I like the idea of Yildiz doubling as Dusans backup. Milik can be useful as a late game sub, but when they need a spot starter, Yildiz. Motta used Zirkzee more like a ten than a nine anyway, so it fits Yildiz characteristics
