Can someone pls enlighten me on the rationale behind the Lukaku Vlahovic possible swap?

Like for real? Lulaku is older. Both were poor last season. It doesn’t appear getting Lukaku brings some financial benefit.

So what’s the reason?

Does Allegri think of him in a Mandzukic like role?

Short term profit. But it is exactly that sort of thinking that we ended up in the situation we have now with Arthur. We will have spend 40m+ on a player with no resale value, high wages and likely injury issues.

Even if we were desperate to sell Vlahovic for a profit, the sensible move would be to give him another season to improve on a poor season and also let his book value fall as he depreciates. If you sell for 60m now or next summer, we would make a bigger profit next summer.

Yes and if we sell Vlahovic there are many other players, really cant we just become a bit more creative

I think its an awful idea and pray to god it is not the case.

But the logic i think is one of short term profiting off his sale to help the club's financial position while also bringing in a supposedly equal or more experienced striker. I have my doubts about this assertion but that's the logic I THINK. I hope our transfer genius that we just swiped from Napoli is smarter than this but we'll see.

I also wonder, if its true we have not moved on from Allegri due to his contract cost, why would we make future-altering decisions for him? Like Vlahovic is 23 and has the world ahead of him. Especially if we have another manager here next year with the thought being that future manager will play a more attacking formation and style that will use Vlahovic to a greater degree. At that point, what do we care if Allegri "promises" us a a Scudetto if we make this move?

I would think we'd just take this year on the chin and regroup next summer with a new manager, MORE bad contracts off the books, and a full year of scouting and smart moves from our new transfer genius. In the grand scheme of things, burning down the house for Allegri seems nonsensical to the point I think it's probably more transfer rumor shit than not.

I think we can all agree Giuntoli is smarter than this. The only LOGICAL thing I can wrap my brain around is that Giuntoli went to Chelsea to see if we could get an easy loan like Inter got last year and Chelsea opened up the topic of Vlahovic. Being a smart businessman, Giuntoli was willing to at least listen and hear it out because we've all seen the insane money Chelsea has been throwing around. At THIS POINT anything said or agreed is unknowable to anybody except the people in the room honestly. So the rest is speculation, twitter gurus, forum gurus, etc. It's all speculation.

There is no harm in listening to an offer on Vlahovic. But I have my doubts a swap was ever in discussion because that's such a transfer market clickbait idea. I think we went to ask what a loan would cost for Lukaku and Chelsea asked about Vlahovic and the numbers weren't super bad but the press started running with it. We've already made the financial commitment to Vlahovic so breaking even on him makes no sense from a Giuntoli perspective.

It just doesn't make sense how the rumor is being framed on twitter and such and I think there is a lot more to this than simply "Vlahovic for 45m and Lukaka." I think it'd be something like Vlahovic for 75-80m (or even 90m) to Chelsea and Lukakau to us on a loan plus obligation at like 25-30m (as high as 40m). Horrible move in my opinion but thats what I think was the original discussion brought up by Chelsea.

Again, to make it clear: We have NO IDEA if Giuntoli didn't just laugh in their face and handwave it away saying "let's just talk about a Lukaku loan." Nobody knows but the people in that room. That's why I hate transfer window rumors where EVERY rumor is treated by fans of clubs like its a press release. I'm guilty of it myself, its all of us. But we live in a world where we know clickbait drives monetization of digital content but at the same time fall for it.

The only reason I can think of is the abuse Lukaku got in the stadium and the club wants to show the world how inclusive our club is (as if our club is racist of some sort. Fucking stupid if you ask me)
Brah, they couldn’t care less about that. The only reason we’re getting him is Allegri wants him bad.

Anyway looks like there is just a 10m gap now for the deal to go through. Prepare yourseves gentlemen.

exactly, only we can buy someone not impressive enough for nices of this world to make starters in our team
His done well for Nice tbf, i was just commentating on how his racked up so much experience over the years thanks to Barca. Would be a decent addition he's a good tackler. progressive passer and press resistant. Poor at heading and needs work on discipline.

Type of player i can see us signing. Feels like Todibo has been everywhere and he's only 23.
makes me wonder why we are letting De Winter go if we're only going to spend more money signing Todibo

This would make sense, need depth if De Winter is leaving.

Makes no sense letting De Winter go and spending more for Todibo though.
