Why is Jovetic getting $#@!ted on now while last summer he'd be our saving grace?

Bit of a difference in era's. Del Piero at that age was playing in the greatest league in the history of the sport, Jovetic currently plays in a 2nd rate league and isn't ripping it to pieces like Cavani or Di Natale does.

What does any of this have to do with us signing him or someone else which is the discussion? They are two different people, how does DP's path justify a Jovetic signing? Also DP didn't cost 30m, played in a much better Serie A, not the mediocre one today and lastly didn't have a history with injuries and a season ending one at 21. If that ain't a red flag in this whole thing then I don't know what is. Isn't Jovetic injured right now after the last Montenegro game?

23 year old DP's(97/98) scored 32 goals, 22 year old scored 15 and 21 year old scored 13. Jovetic to date hasn't scored more than 14 goals. Del Piero did so much much more in less time and also managed to show a world quality season in 97/98. We've still not seen a monster season by Jovetic. Viola built everything around Jovetic, he played more games even though he took one whole season off at 21.

Let's not forget that this team can't spend 30m every year, we're not Chelsea and therefore need to do it wisely. We need a striker who can put a very mediocre striking department on his back and I don't think Jovetic is close to being that man.

We can always bring Higuain here and rely on his goalscoring abilities in CL. What a great finisher he proved to be in European competitions. Staggering 8 goals so far. That's clearly the top forward we desperately lack.

Who says those are the limits to the budget? And just cuz we have that money means that we're obligated to sign him for them even though he's not worth it?

Anyway, I'd go for Tevez who's better and has a lower price tag. I'd also look to sign Villa who Barca are trying to get rid of, he'd give us 2 good season and the rest would be a bonus.
