Newcastle would still be landing bargain if they meet Juventus' reported asking price
Newcastle have reportedly made an offer for Juventus' Stefano Sturaro.
Newcastle United have reportedly made an offer for Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro, but it is believed that the Toon's offer of £11.4million is well below the Italians asking price - but they would still land a bargain by meeting Juve's request.
Sturaro, 25, has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, and Newcastle are seemingly in pole position after Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb claimed Rafa Benitez had made an offer for the four-time Italy international.
The report states that Newcastle have made an offer of £11.4million, but that Juventus' asking price for the ex-Genoa midfielder is around the £17.5million mark. Though there is quite some distance between the club's valuation of Sturaro, Newcastle need to sign a player of his calibre and quality if they are to replicate their 2017-18 success of a tenth-placed finish.
Sturaro is renowned for being able to act as a Rolls Royce midfielder, but is more than willing to do the dirty side of the game when required.
A box-to-box midfielder, Sturaro's passing is second to none and he is more than capable of firing a shot into the top corner from long distance. He also offers versatility, appearing on the right side of defence for Juve during 2017-18.
If Juve do indeed reject Newcastle's opening offer, Benitez and The Toon would be foolish not to at least increase their offer. Even if they end up paying Juve's asking price of £17.5million, Sturaro is still a massive bargain.
