That seems like the best formation to include Lampard, which should be a priority for Sven.
Either that or Sven could try a slightly more conservative formation with only one man upfront. Becks-Stevie-Lamps-Cole across midfield with Scholes roaming slightly behind Owen.

Any idea of what Spain are going to start with? If I'm not mistaken they played 4-2-3-1 in most of the qualifiers with Exteberria, Valeron and Vicente forming the supportive trio behind Raul. I'm wondering if they'll stick with this system though as Fernando Torres has recently come to promenance and scored against Italy in Baggio's final Azzurri game. I'm also curious as to whether Exteberria will keep his place on the right with forceful pressure coming from Joaquin.
According to World Soccer, this is Spain's predicted lineup:

Casillas

M Salgado - Marchena - I Helguera - Puyol

Albelda - Xabi Alonso

Etxeberria - Valeron - Vicente

Raul

But I would certainly start Ruben Baraja over X Alonso, as the Valencia duo Albelda - Baraja was simply fantastic this season, and I think Saez knows this. Saez likes all of the attacking midfielders, including Joseba Etxeberria, so there will be no changes there unless an injury pops up. Raul for sure up front, and maybe Cesar Martin from Deportivo in place of Carlos Marchena. World Soccer says that Casillas is the undisputed No. 1, but I am still skeptical about this.

If I was Sven, thats exactly what I would do. The lack of talent up front would give way to more presence in the midfield, with Cole on the left. I like what Joey has done this season, and I think he deserves a place ahead of Hargreaves and Rooney.

But, if I was actually Sven, I'd probably bench Owen because he is too inconsistant. I would put James Beattie in his place. But thats just me. :D

Joe Cole played wonderfully in the last couple of weeks of the Premier League. I've always rated the guy, he's one of my favourite Englishmen.

I agree Andy, I think Beattie shoul d start ahead of Owen too, but I don't think it's gonna happen. Owen always manages to pull en extra card out of the deck when playing for England, so we'll just have to wait and see I guess :)

their midfield looks amazing
Doesn't it though? But their back line looks a little at risk. Maybe Puyol should move to the center, and put Romero in at left back.

Sorry to say it, I think you're right. Good thing I'm not an England fan though. :D

I have World Soccer's Euro 2004 Booklet, and if I recieve enough responses, I will post all of the predicted lineups for all the Countries. That is, if people want it.

Experts here seem to agree this will be our line-up:

-------------Van der Sar----------------
--Reiziger--Stam--Bouma--Van Bronckhorst--
----------------Cocu--------------------
----Sneijder-------------------Davids----
-------------Van der Vaart--------------
--------Kluivert----Van Nistelrooy--------

Possible changes:
