someone please help me as I'm about to smash this f***** PC. I was surfing the net......usual sites with Zone Alarm running and all of a sudden, I see something asking for access. I deny it as it looks like spyware. After that......porn pops up everywhere and I can't close the windows and when I try, more shit pops up. I finally manage to close them and close IE. I find on my desktop 5 links for online crap and so I delete those and open IE again to download adaware. I run it and supposedly it got rid of everything, but Windows Media doesn't work after that. So, I get online to reinstall it and my homepage has changed and more of the same popups.......same scenario. Finally WMP works, but how can I protect my computer against all that crap. Isn't that what the freakin' firewall is for? How come it keeps saying it blocked access and intrusion attempts?

What should I do?

Dunno man, I have Norton Antivirus, a firewall and I scan for spyware regularly with adaware and spybot. And I still find new spyware for just about every scanning. I really don't know how you can protect yourself from that junk. But one piece of advice should be very useful to you.

STOP USING VERY INSECURE SOFTWARE!!!!! IE and Outlook [Express] are both packed with security holes, significant ones at that. Stop using that crap, it will only do you good.

Also download Spybot Search and Destroy to cover up anything Ad-aware leaves behind.

Maybe use another browser rather than IE, you are much less likely to get infected by anything, i suggest Mozilla Firefox.

Update your antivirus often. Download a newer version of your firewall if you haven't. Can't think of anything else to do...

But do get firefox :)

I will definitely switch my browser, even though I find Mozilla a bit inconvenient.

Is the antivirus supposed to be set-up to block incoming crap or do you guys just scan your systems every once in a while?

Also, any idea why WMP is affected by me scanning and removing those registries?

Some registry 'cleaners' are stupid and delete important program file registry entries, though in the case of WMP i wouldn't really call it important :D

Make sure that you have Auto-Protect on and it should trap anything that comes through.

I guess that scaning the system every now and then won't do any harm, i don't do it though unless i suspect something's wrong.

The real time scanning should capture viruses.

Oh and when you're playing games or a program that needs a lot of memory and processing, switch the Auto-protect off while you're running them if they're slow, it can really make a difference.

I've tried Opera before. What annoys me is the slow startup, but the interface is really easy to work with, and easy on the eyes. They've got ads running all the time.......that's another turn-off.

As for winamp vs wmp.......wmp for video files and winamp for music. I've got the best winamp skin ever made imo.

It does have ads but then it also blocks popups, always has.

Ok......I've got installed, but something bothers me.

At www.hattrick.org......when you click back on a page within the site, the little timer on the bottom moves backwards to the time at which you were at that previous page. You know what I'm trying to say? Heck, I don't even understand myself. :totti:

Opera is so far the best that I've used. Has been using for a while and no longer getting those annoying popups/ads. I would reccomend it.

Hey Mohammed, If you only want a light browser without all the mail clients and stuff. If you only want a browser that starts up super fast, is reliable, easy to use, and blocks pop-ups, all with tabed browsing capability, then GO FOR MOZILLA FIREFOX!
