Nordsjaelland are preparing to embark on their first ever Champions League adventure, fresh from last season’s Danish Superliga title success.
The Wild Tigers, founded from the merger of Farum IK and Stavnsholt BK in 1991, have had a remarkable rise to glory, challenging in the upper echelons of the Danish championship and enjoying UEFA Cup and Europa League runs from 2003 onwards.
Last season’s thrilling run to the title saw three Nordsjaelland players – Okore, Bjelland and Mikkelsen – selected for Denmark’s Euro 2012 squad.
The only time Nordsjaelland have faced Juventus was at youth level in last season’s Primavera Cup. Marco Baroni’s Primavera ran out 6-1 winners in La Spezia.
Delving further into the archives, the Bianconeri have encountered just one Danish team in the club’s history. This came back in 1982, with Trapattoni’s men triumphing 4-1 away from home (featuring Platini’s European goal in the black and white stripes), followed by a 3-3 draw at the Stadio Comunale.
The Wild Tigers currently find themselves in second place of the Danish championship, trailing Copenhagen after seven fixtures. They have won four, drawn two and lost just one.
