Actually when you think of it, Messi's existence is a real blessing. Imagine if Messi didn't exist. The alternative would have been either Ronaldo or Xavi winning it. Ronaldo is one of the most disgusting players in the world, and with Xavi we would have had to endure the media telling us how not only is he the best player in the world, but also that he's a humble saint(the biggest myth in world football imo, he's a cunt).

That means the 3 of their existences are curses.

Nah I'm not a mind reader, I'll like to hear your football opinion of a footballer player winning a football award being depressing ;)
I don't have any football opinions. I have capricious self centered opinions. Oh wait, it works out.

I'm sick and tired of Messi, I have been for 5 years. When are we gonna talk about something new already.

Messi is without doubt the best player in the world. What a player, he will win the prize again this year. Simply because there is a big difference between him and the rest. I said this 2 or 3 years ago here on this forum, i'll say it again. If Messi stays fit for the whole year, he will win the best player award for the next 3-4 years.
He can die on January 1st and FIFA will still give the 2012 award to Messi.
Even if he deserves the award, the last year farce with the ballon d'or makes the whole award fake.

If Messi won it last year then this year it should be Cristiano Ronaldo. Only that way last year's award will make sense.

True, but with Messi you have hordes of obnoxious nitwits telling us how Messi is not only great but so humble etc. It's like they white wash themselves in his personality.

Messi absolutely deserved it last year. Maybe less so than this year or the year before last, but it was well deserved.

That is true too. But at least with Messi, he isn't a real cunt ala Xavi. Football fans always idealize players, its no wonder they try and make Messi sound like a saint. Don't go too far, look at how perfect this forum makes Del Piero sound. Its extra annoying in Xavi's case because like i said, unlike those two players Xavi is a real cunt, both on and off the field.

Only times I disagreed with Balon D'or winners, Owen winning it when he was nowhere near the best whatsoever, and one thats more controversial, disagree with Kaka winning it even if he was big game winner for CL, he was ridicolously average rest of the year, an amazing Ronaldo of Man U should won it instead consistency wise for all year.

That's what I'm saying. That's why Ronaldo deserves it this year.

If failing or even choking in big tournaments doesn't count and scoring some 50 goals in the calendar year counts, then Ronaldo must win it this year, like Messi last year.

That's why I think Jack's farcical persecution of Barca is so spot on, he's making a comment about that, but strangely some people don't get the joke.

Didn't know Xavi was so bad btw.

He won it because the things he does consistently on the football pitch nobody else can do. Not only that, but unlike Ronaldo he turns up in the classico's, and he turns up in finals as well. Almost always scores in finals. He assists like crazy in addition to scoring so many goals, the guy is a semi complete player. Go to the Madrid forums, you'll find that lots of Real fans actually admit that Messi is superior to Ronaldo. Real fans jeering on Ronaldo in the last classico is quite telling too.

But admittedly(and thankfully) if Ronaldo didn't choke in the WC too, he probably would have taken advantage of Messi's bad WC and won the award.

On another note. Valencia have agreed personal terms with Gregory van Der Wiel. Great signing for them, always liked VDW for the Dutch NT, fast attacking fullback. Not sure how well he's playing for Ajax, but the guy obviously has ability.

Ballon d'or goes to the player who did the most during a calendar year. Messi would have been 4th last year if you count only the points that come from football experts (as it was done until last year) but he was given the award because FIFA added its touch to the award and counted the votes of the football captains. Messi won the award because of the football captains of some Oceanian island countries and similar guys.
Check last year's voting and you will see for yourself.

Ronaldo in 2011 scored 56 goals and made 16 assists on 52 official matches. If we do what was done last year, then he should win it this year, even if some others deserve it more.
Simple, Messi didn't deserve last year's award. Give me one good reason for which he deserved it, if you exclude the matches against La Liga minnows.
Was it for what he did in the most important CL matches? For what he did with Argentina?
Ronaldo this year did everything that Messi did last year.

Fred, if France football and FIFA awards weren't merged, Sneijder would have won it. These are the France football results from last year:

1. Wesley Sneijder 315 points
2. Andres Iniesta 308
3. Xavi 247
4. Lionel Messi 182
5. Diego Forlan 156

But after FIFA results Messi won by quite some margin there and overall he was the winner while the France football winner Sneijder, didn't make it even in top 4.

The merging of the two awards is the reason why Messi won the ballon d'or last year.

If you want consistency, go and look at Diego Milito's scoring record in the league and Champions League that year, and try and find a reason why he wasn't even on the shortlist.
