That Zaza needs to play more regularly to be called. He was called until season started and he stopped playing two games I'm a row. He was questionable limited performer and call up for the NT when he was playing weekly (didn't take his chances, was average). His chances alot less now even if Conte likes him.

It's not, you can be clear better player then the other choices, but if you don't play because you are 4th choice in your you screw your progress and chances. It's like Rossi, ability wise he is best Italian CF, but besides injuries, he is back up when healthy so he has no chance to be called.

In that case thats a bullshit statement, especially from a coach like Conte.

If Zaza is capable of having some minutes (and banging some goals btw, + has a great time/score ratio) with our attack with that form of Mandzu and Dybala mainly, he sure is capable to compete for a starting spot in the NT with the likes of Eder, Pelle, Gabbiadini.

At the end, its all up to who the coach rates and preffers tbh. The talk about club minutes, bad club form is BS. Conte sure is the kind of a coach who has such picks (for example: Giaccerini, Gabbia etc.).

When you play for the NT, its an entirely new system, teammates, tactics and atmosphere. Players who have been playing alot of games and have more experience(longterm and shortterm) will adapt much better.

Conte should pick the players who performed the best.

It's not BS. This makes complete sense. Especially more so since because Zaza isn't some world beater worth the sacrifice or extra leeway. You play enough, perform enough, you get considered. It's fair and simple. It's the other roles and some other names Conte is bit stubborn with (Berardi, Insigne, Saponara, Bernardeschi, Romagnoli, Rugani before he joined us).


Zaza he likes, he used to played regularly, not just call up. In fact Conte was criticized, on this forum and in general for playing Zaza (and Immobile) for whole last season despite how limited and average he was. They were calling for other names. Non stepped up until Pelle made the spot his.


I know he is scoring in good minutes for us and all right now, but we don't need to become all biased and drunk on the Kool aid that quickly. Zaza is likely to not start until next coppa or injury crisis so this means it's not ideal chances to earn a NT spot. If all the other choices suffer in similar way, then yeah maybe, but not likely.

You should pick the players who suit your tactics, the players that you think would do good for your team, not the players with most playing minutes.

Thats why you shouldnt pick players based on club minutes. Sure, if he is frozen out from the squad (Balloteli, Rosi...) he has no place.

Im not saying that the club form of the player is not important. If the player is in insane form for the club of course you should and would call up. But Italy doesnt have that kind of a CF at this time, so i think Zaza is at least worth a call up.

I disagree. I think this is the main reason.

If he performed when called up, i dont think that he would have stopped picking him up.

Time will tell, but i think that he will get a call up for the Euro if things stay as they are.

He stopped starting because he wasn't performing, and because of Pelle (and Eder). But he is not called up every time anymore specially for not playing regularly. As I said Conte kinda likes him, he was in last month's friendly Squad for example.
