Shutdown Problems (5 Viewers)

I'll start off by saying that I'm honestly the most clueless person when it comes to computers and I would appreciate any help from you Tech geniuses out there.

I have an Hp laptop and I have a problem with shutting down my computer.

When I click the shutdown icon; the screen reads 'logging off' and it just stays that way.


I tried switching user but that didn't work.

Any tips or suggestions?

I think it happened to me before and defragmentation helped. I also did scan for viruses.

When it happened to you, was your PC running slower or more sluggishly?

Because mine is perfectly fine. It's not slow or anything. It's just when I press shutdown it doesn't shutdown. It's like it's hanging on to something.

I did run slower but I think it also fixed that problem. Not sure though, it was long time ago.

If you want freeware that does an in-depth virus/malware scan then download Malwarebytes, run the update on it, and then scan. It might take an hour to scan your whole computer in full scan but it'll pick everything up or rule that out.

Search for all files containing "system 32" and delete them.

it could be a profile issue too.

Try creating a test account, and logon with it and then shutdown. See if that works.

Click start and press shutdown that helps.

Its something for sure man

lets try to disable your startup items and try.

Start > Run and type msconfig. Click OK. In the general tab uncheck the load startup items. Reboot and test.
