The rules state 4 places for England, 4 for Italy etc and also 1 place for Current holders. This was shown today on BBC news referencing to a table taken from the offical UEFA website. I'd look for it but I cant be bothered.
Are you sure about that? If there is always one spot reserved for the holders why is UEFA taking this stance against Liverpool? I thought the rules were cleary stated that holders of the CL do not have free entry into next year's competition?

Personally, i feel Liverpool deserve the right to defend their title. Its hard to imagine the tournament kicking off without a title holder. Besides which, i think Uefa have rightfully disallowed a 5 team delegation from England. Come to think of it, even 4 teams from each country, has kind of diluted the essence of the competiton. Its no longer the conglomeration of Champions really, since it goes down all the way to 4th place. Coming back to the point, i think its really between Everton and Liverpool really to decide on what should be done. Maybe a part of Liverpool's Cl final earnings be given to Everton, or a two legged play off or whatever. They need to come to an amicable conclusion between themselves, because if the FA get involved, i think Everton will feel hard done by.

This is most certainly UEFAs problem. The FA are under no obligation to grant us the 4th spot ahead of Everton, that would be completely unfair to Everton regardless of how much I dislike them! But we have won UEFAs premier cup competition, they would be shooting themselves in the foot by not including us in next seasons tournament. We have won their tournament and it's madness to exlude us. In the old days the winner would always return to defend their trophy, even if they did not win their domestic league title.

The winners must defend their trophy. I would even say it would not even be a legitimate tournament next season if the winners are not present!
Frankly, the European champions are more deserving of a qualifying place than the champions of Cyprus, Wales, Latvia etc. teams who will not even qualify from the qualifying stage.
And you would be saying EXACTLY the same if you were in the same position as Liverpool!

Taking away a place from other nations would be no less unfair than taking it away from Everton. And it is not up to us to say which nation deserves and which doesnt a CL spot, as it would be discrimination. The Spanish FA solved this problem in their own house a few years ago, et the ENglish FA do the same if they want.

That is what it stated on the website. A mistake perhaps, but nonetheless according to the BBC atleast, thats how it was.

A European Champion who failed to guarantee a 4th place in a competiton with a team like Everton, is nothing more than an ultra extremely lucky team...

I don't really care, luck is in the game and we cannot avoid it.

If they want to play in Europe it is simple, win a 4th place in the EPL...
But if you FAILED that tell that you are not good enough....

Greece win the European championship and they were one of the weekest team in the touronment, Porto wins the CL even with the presence of teams like AC Milan, Juve, Real, Chelsea...

I don't think that you can judge a team depending on a knockout touronment like Champions League, it is a case of knockout game you might win it or lose it and if you had some luck to your side you might even advance further...

While in the domestic League it is nearly impossible for a mid size team team like Udinese for example to win the title cuz he will fail to compete consistantly with the big names....

Liverpool doesn't deserve to play in CL next year...

I don't really care of they are going to play or not. But if they are to play they should not take a position from another country.

Concerning the CL, the reasons you mentioned are the reasons that make me year by year realize that this competition is closer to a joke.

I don't care too, but Grecee, Porto, Liverpool... and such exapmles are making football a less entertaining game, and leading small teams to a disgusting tactics...

You could also as easily argue that the Champions League shows a teams true quality. When every game matters. Rather than a dragged out league campaign in which you can suffer for many many reasons. Comparing Udinese to Liverpool is a little off. Udinese suck and couldn't do anything in such a competition. Much like every other Italian team excluding Milan and Juve. The difference with smaller English teams is although they might suck, they will work their ass off for it. Like Leeds and Liverpool have shown us.

I think they should definetly re-introduce the 2nd group stage. That really filtered out the less able teams.
