I also came to a new conclussion:

Beppe is decent, sometimes his transfers are absolutely spot on like Barzagli, Pirlo and Vidal or they are pretty awful like Traore, Elia, Motta and Martinez.

So is his times at Juve too, the transfers in his first season were dreadful and a year after that we had good transfers like Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo and Vucinic.

This was his time and chance to prove doubters wrong, he had a lot of things working in his advantage (great team, unbeaten season, potential, working with Conte)


If the players he signed this season fail to have any positive impact (I'm not counting Giovinco, he sucks regardless) then I think we should be cautious about renewing it.

As for the pursuit of the striker, not getting one certainly has to go down as a black mark against his name.

I didn't like Juve's position of just trying to sign whatever good player they could get their hands on, rather than appearing to have a clear idea of a type of player they wanted that they thought would fit well in Juve's system.

There was far less movement on the striker market than I would have expected (largely due to Real Madrid and Man City being inactive), so there were few opportunities there to be exploited, so not getting the 'top player', I feel was taken largely out of Juve's control.

The only opportunity Juve missed to strengthen their forward line, I felt, was Pazzini. He was clearly leaving Inter and was undoubtedly there to be got. I suspect Marotta thought Pazzini would still be at Inter in the last couple of days of the market and he'd be able to take him if all else failed. That would appear to have been a miscalculation on his part.

The other players that Juve were linked with and seemed to show serious interest in (Dzeko, Jovetic, Llorente) never really came onto the market and Juve don't really have the funds to make great offers that those clubs/players are going to feel compelled to accept, even if the player wasn't really on the market.

If you look at Milan signing De Jong (which is a very good move): outwith Milan's control, an opportunity was presented to them for them to make a move for a good player in a position they needed strengthening in. They did well to take advantage of it, but it is just luck that the opportunity was there.

Nothing really presented itself for Juve to take advantage of this summer - and I think it's safe to say that anything resembling a top player can only be brought to Italy just now when various things conspire in favour of the Italian club.

Moving for Berbatov was a sensible thing to do and it's a shame that didn't come off (though, with motivation being a key factor in the signing, if he chose to go to Fulham instead of playing in the CL, Juve may have dodged a bullet).

Not much to say about signing Bendtner. He's a pretty poor player, though not as bad as most people have portrayed him to be over the years. The only positive is that Marotta knows that he isn't a good player, so just seems to have taken him as a one year thing. It would have been worse to sign someone slightly better than Bendtner (Borriello) but on a longer term deal that could have burdened the club with an unwanted player somewhere down the line.

Conte and stadium are huge factors... he got lucky with Barzaglie and Pirlo exploding. Some other transfers where good like Licht, Vidal etc but they where easy to make although i dont want him sacked just no renewal of the contract.
