In your situation getting a gun is the right thing to do but the society is broken if a man has to buy a gun to protect his family in the first place.

I have several buddies who work in downtown Dallas and they were emailed late last night and told not to come in today. The majority of downtown and the west end area are considered a crime scene.

Hope they are all OK.

I don't think so. If you learn how to properly use a firearm, you have a better chance of protecting yourself. It can't save you from everything, but you're better off than you would be otherwise.

American crime numbers? That's so fucking broad. A lot are in jail for doing practically nothing. I guess a commercialized prison system does that for you.
