Draw against Roma at Olimpico is a good result that's for sure.... but "super-positive result" according To CR makes me feel like if we are Catania.

A draw against Roma in their field is positive result for every team in Europe,
even the old, almighty Juve, would be pleased with that in the end of the day.
The trip to Olympico always carries the risk of losing some points, its one of the 3 games of the entire season that we can afford to drop some points.
Now considering the facts that
-Roma are in their best form possible,
-we are not exactly in shape, right now, either
-and we are also suffering many injuries and suspension blows.
-Roma has better material (in terms of players and coach) anyway
-They now each other for years and had the time, to develop their tactics
and teamwork in the highest levels

Considering all these facts, CR's statement is justified in a way...

I was also puzzled that Biri was prefered to Sali as the sub.
I can only assume it is because Sali wasn't match fit, but then he shouldn't have been on the bench if he wasn't fit, so it doesn't make sense.

I was also puzzled about that and we have to point out the fact,
that unlike DD, CR wasnt Biri's teammate, i think that half of the players we brought in are injury prone and are unable to match the form of an aging eternal sub...
Or maybe, its just us, underestimating this "hero" (Biri), like always...

I am trying my very best to look at the positives here- we stole a draw where we could have very well lost by 2 or 3 goals.

Roma looked the better side throughout, as we seemed to struggle to keep pace with the Giallorossi. I think I was about as shocked as the Roma players when Trez scored, it was a nice buildup started with DP, for his only positive play of the day.

Just when everyone got excited that we may actually have a chance to win this game, Totti brought us all down to reality, as he slammed a weak and ineffective Criscito to the floor, and slotted home the equalizer.

From that point on, I thought we were on the ropes for most of the game. We never looked like scoring again, and Roma kept attacking in waves...luckily, most of their shots were pretty ineffective. Our defense was pretty comedic in the first half, and that will be our biggest problem this season...made even more so with Andrade getting injured. Roma did a good job of spreading the field, and controlling the game.

We were pretty fortunate that Iaquinta was able to notch up the equalizer, as it was an unbelieveable play..otherwise this post would have a lot more venom :eyebrows:

Buffon - 7 - He had a very solid game, I was starting to wonder if he regretted his decision to stay, after being left hung to dry on both goals.

Grygera - 6.5 - Our best defender on the field today. He was solid throughout, and showed some good ability

Andrade - 5.5 - he isnt fast enough back there. Biggest mistake was playing referee, raising his hand for the foul, instead of attempting to chase down Totti on the first goal

Criscito - 4.5 - Second game this season that he's had to be subbed out for poor performance. This guy aint ready for the big time, and we have no time for on the job training. He's lacking strength and skill...loan him out to Siena in January, and bring in some REAL defenders

Chiellini - 6 - A solid, mistake-free game, and had the assist on the tying goal

Nedved - 5 - Super disappointing game from Pavel today. He was painfully ineffective, and looks like he's lost a few steps. I wish we could blame the tactics

Zanetti - 6.5 - Always solid in our middle, he was the best nidfielder today. He wont be giving up a starting spot for Tiago or Almiron

Nocerino - 5.5 - When he's in the middle playing ala Gattuso, he does well...but when he gets to the outside and tries to cross like a winger, he looks more like a ball-boy

Iaquinta - 8 - MOM. He had a nice assist on the first goal, and was all over the damn field, trying to make things happen... some of our other players should follow his lead. Slick header for the equalizer. He could be the short term answer to Camo on the right side, because unlike Nocerino, Iaquinta can cross a bit

Del Piero - 5 - Anyone can have a penalty saved, but to completely miss the net is inexcusable !! Had one decent pass the entire game, and did nothing else positive

Trezeguet - 6.5 - Beautiful finish on the first goal. Wasnt given enough service, seeing as though Roma was doing all the attacking

Legrottaglie - 6 -made one mistake on the coverage of a corner, but was solid the rest of the game

Birindelli - 6 - lucky for us, no mistakes

Palladino - 6 - was more of an impact player that DP...we'll see if he get the start against Reggina

Coach:

Ranieri - 5 - some may thing Ranieri's tactics and formations were correct, but we nearly lost the damn game, and were completely outplayed for 90 minutes. 4th place ?? Not likely

Juve management- 0- Sucko and company should have seen the defensive problems before the season even started, and with Andrade's injury, we are in some serious trouble. Did these fools actually believe this defense would hold up with the personnel we have ?? I wont mention the money completely wasted in the midfield either....

OMG I cant believe I am gonna say this.
I agree on every word in this report & it is the best report so far except for the Ranieri part.

Ranieri played a very smart match,even if we lost 2_1,it would have been still good for me.
Before the game I said that we will be dominated the whole match no matter how we played.
Before the match Ranieri said that we r not inferiour to Roma but He knew that we are,& he knew that we will be dominated in the midfield no matter what & thats why he played with this formation.
He played with 6 players who cant go forward & gave them only defensive roles,& on the other hand he played with 3 players who dont get back & gave them only offensive roles.Only one player had both def. & off. roles in this match(Nedved) & u rarely see this in a football team.
Ranieri started the match Telling Roma,control the game,play ur own Game & I'll play on counter attacks & I swear if it wasnt for these defensive errors we could have ran with the match,not becoz we have the better team but becoz Ranieri played it smart

This way of play shows a very important thing.
The guy knows what his players are capable off,he knows that they cant cope with Roma midfield & thats shows that Ranieri is living in reality & doesnt have that STUPID TRUST in his players like other coaches has.

Milan:For me,if all their players are fit,they have the best starting eleven in europe & they could go on & win or at least reach the semi-final of the CL.That said they will suffer badly in Serie a & I am havin a feeling that we can beat them for the 3rd place,they had the worst transfer market in all Serie a teams,just look at their defence & imagine if Nesta got injured what will happen.
They have 5 key players(Nesta,Gattuso,Pirlo,Kaka & Inzagui),if any of them didnt play any match,any team in Serie a can snatch a draw or even beat them.

Fiorentina,Palermo & Udinise:For me,These teams are our biggest contenders for the 4 th place,look at their starting eleven,they are not better than us,they are also playin in europe(except Udini).

Serie is not that Hard,I think if our same team was playin in the EPL.we wouldnt have had any chance of finishing in the first 6 places.

This year,if Milan continued this good form in the CL,I'll go for the 3rd place,if they got out earlier or if they did some specil worlk in January transfers I expect a 4th place BUT our team needs a complete make-over next season to be able to compete for anything.

my same thoughts here, except Ranieri.. This is what he could do at most. Before the match I was expecting a big score by Roma because of the quality players they have, we were very lucky that the game didn't end up 4-1 or more.

You didn't mention about the attacking side of the game, we did very good offensively, but defensively we sucked big time, it was obvious from the starting of the season we needed a Cannavaro type player, but I still think we will be ok against the small teams, thou we will get screwed by Milan and Inter, that's because when you come up from Serie B, things doesn't go great suddenly, If we end up top 4 it is a success!

Azzurri said we have injuries but lets be honest of all the injuries we have, only the 1 to Camoranesi counts for anything because the rest have not shown anything at all when it comes to combatting progress into our penalty box.

I am not a fan of 2 defensive midfielders but by golly we need to adopt this play.

We always seem to be looking for scapegoats like Criscito was the reason we conceded the goals.

The guy is young and I have seen him 4 times but have not seen things that are that terrible about him, he got turned by a world class talent who has bags nad bags of experience behind him.

Again @ Azzurri, Palladino has more energy to help out in the midfield, that is why I suggested him because from what I have sen aboout his attacking play, it is not much at all.

exactly my thoughts. Chiellini may have solid games but we need more from our full backs. He added nothing what so ever to offensive play(except for the throw in i guess). But he needs improve that side of his vastly, if he is going to improve himself as a player and develop.Right now offensively i see him as below average.

Alex was a real disappointment and i know he played in that trequaresta role that he doesn't like but again i have questions over his overall fitness.He looked in much better shape last year. And when we needed him he failed twice, first was the volley and the penalty. The good thing about the captain is that am 100% sure he knows that and he will improve a lot in the coming weeks, not necessarily by midweek.

Also i really really liked Grygera on Rb, he should definitely start there for us

Camoranesi and Marchionni injured. Tiago and Almiron out of form. Nocerino is not an RM. These are the reasons Raniero played with 3 midfielders. Add to that the fact that he apparently wanted to suck out Roma's attack from the middle to make it easier to the defenders and rely on counter attacks. This whole scenario worked well until Totti scored a goal from an offside situation.

Now Boumsong was never solid when he was in Newcastle and "blunder" was probably his middle name,but then Juve still got him,why did we get a 26 year old blunder boy for nearly 5 million Euros,i have no idea..Criscito on the other hand was very solid playing for Genoa,was able to score goals as well..
I agree with Criscito needing to hit the gyms,sure..but IMO he has incredible talent for a central defender..And come on,Boumsong had enough time to show how good he really is,I for one has never been impressed,but i also dont come in and bash the guy...

People were ready to burn Boumsong at the stake at his first mistake.

It's clear to me that some people are giving Criscito a free pass by comparison to Boumsong because of:

1. His age
2. His citizenship

But Criscito is being gifted a pass that other defenders providing similar performances would be ridiculed out of the Olimpico for. There's no other way to explain why Ranieri pulled him mid-match twice in the past couple of weeks to replace him with Legrottaglie.

Please do not confuse wishful thinking with reality here when it comes to Criscito. That boy has a lot to prove and fast before he loses his job to Legrottaglie of all people. I'll support him, as I did Boumsong. But I have little evidence to be confident in him becoming anything more than a bench-worthy player for us at this stage.

And we're Juve, not Empoli or Siena where we get to let our young talent potentially develop when the goals go whizzing by as we fight off relegation.

The 4-3-3 choice was clearly made out of lacking viable winger options, not out of confidence in our defense.

That said, you're right in that a poor defense and questionable midfield doesn't suggest 4-3-3 is the best option. But I think he did what he could with what shortcomings we obviously have under the circumstances.

I think most people were ready to burn Boumsong at the stake for three reasons more so than with Criscito:

1. His brutal play at Newcastle
2. His price, wage, and the notion that there were better options
3. His citizenship as well as Deschamps' citizenship had to of played a role in his acquisition. (A defender as maligned as him would not have been added by DD if he wasn't French)

I really hope his race doesn't come into consideration.
