TURIN, Italy, May 13 (Reuters) - Gianluigi Buffon, goalkeeper for Juventus and the Italian national team, voluntarily presented himself for questioning by magistrates on Saturday amid allegations of betting improprieties.

Magistrates in Turin, the home town of the Seria A champions, said they questioned Buffon for more than two hours over the allegations and took a statement from the player - the world's most expensive goalkeeper.

Juventus are one of four top Italian teams whose officials are under investigations for "criminal association" and "sporting fraud" in what has developed over the last few days into one of the biggest scandals to hit the game.

Investigations by public prosecutors do not necessarily lead to criminal charges and those investigations are not necessarily linked to the questions faced by Buffon.

As well as the questioning in Turin, Parma magistrates are investigating three residents of Parma on suspicion of gambling related offences. Judicial sources said four Juventus players were involved in the case.

Italian soccer regulations forbid players from any form of betting on football matches in any championship.

Italian media have speculated that the Parma probe might be related to Buffon, who joined Juventus from Parma in 2001.

The keeper will not be playing in Sunday's league title decider against Reggina due to an injury.

I remember reading an interview with Del Piero where he was asked whether his club was cheating or not. He replied that they should. Might have been joking but I seriously think that big hero Del Piero actually condones the cheating.

Which leaves me with the question -

If Del Piero dopes himself and approves of match fixing, why the hell shouldn't I?

Alexander, I think you just underscored one of the main problems about what's going on in Italian football right now. There's a lot of made-up b.s. along with the nuggets of truth because quotes, jokes, and single actions are being taken wholly out of context and re-evaluated under the perspective of a conspiracy witch hunt.

Now my use of "witch hunt" is a strong term, as I believe there are figurative witches out there in this one. But there is also a kind of social hysteria going on too where everything is being viewed through tinted glasses that always point to "corruption".

Del Piero may have joked, but he may have been serious. I choose to believe that my big hero Del Piero not only knew what happened behind the curtains but also shared a strong belief in the project.

How could you look yourself in the mirror each morning and say - Allesandro Del Piero, you've doped yourself and the love of your life bribed the referees. That violently disgusts me so I'll leave the club.

No... He came to the conclusion that the cheatings merely helped him win more titles with his team. End of story, Del Piero is happy.

I know that honesty and clean spirited game should be the trademark of sport but I dont think the Italian media is doing Italian football a favour with the timing of these accusations. After the world cup would have been a better time.

I believe that these scandals will just fuel the players' morale and determination to win to show everyone who's the boss. Therefore I expect Juventus to destroy Reggina and we'll be champions.

I have prayed to God for 3 things:

1) That we win tomorrow so we'll be champions.

2) That Del Piero will play the full match.

3) That Juventus won't be relegated into the lower divisions.

There's no need to worry about anything at this point. I understand the Juventini frustration over the scandals and the minimal chance of a equally scandalous relegation but I honestly can't see any of that happening.

And who knows, maybe Moggi and co. will be reappointed in the summer when all of this has blown over.

Have faith and enjoy the Scudetto celebrations we will have tomorrow!

Forza Juventus per sempre!!

1) maybe

2) doubt it

3) here's hoping.....

With all these news popping every now and then, I am not really knowing how to feel about tomorrow's game or even the Scudetto in general.
