I do not think it's pure madness because Zambrotta barely gets up the wing as it is and the three players in attack interchange and switch positions, not just remain in the spots listed on the teamsheet. As you know when we play with a trident the three forwards move about as they please and take the space that is available for them. And on top of that, Chiellini can handle the wing to himself because the presence of Vieira will surely help him out a bit...if Giannichedda has to play I might rethink the plan a bit though. But all in all Del Piero or Mutu will usually be available wide on the left flank...that's how they normally play.
TBH that would be just waisting Zambrotta for the sake of Chiellini playing, for which I see no reason. To be honest, from what he's shown in Juve so far, not Fiorentina or the NT, Chiellini couldnt handle a bottle of coke by himself, let alone guard the entire flank from the likes of Cafu or Seedorf. Zambrotta is needed on the left here.
Secondly, I think a 3 manned attack is a bit over the top here, and I would rather go for the 4-4-2 here, or IMO veen better, but wont happen, 3-5-2. Fact is, we have more to lose by this match than to gain, and I'd rather we had a tough, resilient formation than a spectacular attacking one.
Third, I'd rather have Zlatan go up against the likes of Stam or Gatusso because Alex doesnt have the strengt to do it, and because Nesta is out of the game it could be won in the air or by strenght. And I believe we all agree that isnt Del Piero's strong point.
