This is what I would play:

Chimenti
Zambrotta - Kovac - Cannavaro - Chiellini
Camoranesi - Emerson - Vieira
Mutu - Trezeguet - Del Piero

but, it's a big game so we all know that Capello will invariably start with this:

Chimenti
Zambrotta - Thuram - Cannavaro - Chiellini
Camoranesi - Emerson - Vieira - Nedved
Ibrahimovic - Trezeguet

Unfortunately he seems to know no other way. The only thing that can keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic out of an important game for Fabio Capello's Juventus is injury or suspension. Mutu merits a place in the team ahead of Nedved based on the two players' form but I'm almost 100% sure the Czech will start and it doesn't matter what Del Piero does, if Zlatan is fit, Zlatan plays.

Why do people put Mutu in attack in their formations, it simply wont happen, he's primarily a midfielder now. And to have all 3 of Zambrotta , Camoranesi and Mutu on the same, right, side and have Chiellini hold the left by himself is pure madness. If Mutu plays it will be either on the right or left flank, not in attack.

Frankly Stuart, in this case I'd say that Capello knows better than you.

Chiellini is a liability for this game IMO and doesnt deserve to play. If it were up to me, I'd play thuram on the right and Zambrotta on the left, with Canna and Kovač inbetween.

Too true Stuart. You would think after the great match last year at the San Siro, and the good form he has currently, Del Piero would get the start, no questions asked. Unfortunately the only thing we can hope for is that Ibrahimovic and the rest of the squad get the job done despite poor form on the part of some players that should perhaps not be starting..

Anyways, this is what I would play (and I'm not, unlike some people, claiming I know better than Capello)

-------------------Abbiati-------------------

Thuram Cannavaro Kovač Zambrotta

Camoranesi Vieira Emerson Mutu

----------Zlatan Trezeguet--------------

I do not think it's pure madness because Zambrotta barely gets up the wing as it is and the three players in attack interchange and switch positions, not just remain in the spots listed on the teamsheet. As you know when we play with a trident the three forwards move about as they please and take the space that is available for them. And on top of that, Chiellini can handle the wing to himself because the presence of Vieira will surely help him out a bit...if Giannichedda has to play I might rethink the plan a bit though. But all in all Del Piero or Mutu will usually be available wide on the left flank...that's how they normally play.

TBH that would be just waisting Zambrotta for the sake of Chiellini playing, for which I see no reason. To be honest, from what he's shown in Juve so far, not Fiorentina or the NT, Chiellini couldnt handle a bottle of coke by himself, let alone guard the entire flank from the likes of Cafu or Seedorf. Zambrotta is needed on the left here.

Secondly, I think a 3 manned attack is a bit over the top here, and I would rather go for the 4-4-2 here, or IMO veen better, but wont happen, 3-5-2. Fact is, we have more to lose by this match than to gain, and I'd rather we had a tough, resilient formation than a spectacular attacking one.

Third, I'd rather have Zlatan go up against the likes of Stam or Gatusso because Alex doesnt have the strengt to do it, and because Nesta is out of the game it could be won in the air or by strenght. And I believe we all agree that isnt Del Piero's strong point.

out of the ones ive seen in the thread so far, that's the one i would go with

id say put in del piero for zlatan at half time, that should leave him more motivated to do something big

If you're going to play a 3-5-2 then at least play it with 3 real centre backs.

----Thuram Kovač Cannavaro--------

Camoranesi Vieira Emerson Nedved

--------------------Mutu-------------------

-------------Zlatan Trezeguet------------

Having said that, there's no way were' going tomplay it.

Anyways, this is what I would play. I don't understand the hype about Chiellini in here and I don't think he is confident enough to play in such a big game.

-------------------Abbiati-------------------

Blasi Cannavaro Thuram Zambrotta

Camoranesi Vieira Emerson Mutu

------------DP Trezeguet--------------

This is what Milan will start

----------------Dida----------------
Cafu ----Stam - XX------ Kaladze
-----------------Pirlo---------------
--------Gattuso - Seedorf
---------------kaka----------
--------Gilardino - Vieri

XX = Maldini/Simic/Billy ( I don't know about Maldini's condition though, but on last match Simic and Billy played, if both were to play against us, it would make things a lot easier since Nesta is out)

It's supposedly more likely now, with this good form and a new record to psyche us up, to beat Milan than it usually is but somehow it's for those very reasons that I suspect we will be brought back down to earth in the San Siro.

I pray with all my heart that I am wrong, and that Capello decides to start something like this:

---------------Abbiati---------------
Kovac----Canna----Thuram----Zambro
Camoranesi--Vieira--Emerson--Mutu
--------Trezeguet--Del Piero------

I would prefer to have Thuram on the right and Kovac in the centre as opposed to my post above with them interchanged, but Lilian hasn't played out right for ages now and Kovac has been deployed there a couple of times so it's probably the more likely of the two. :)

...and what is Vieira's status now?

Personally I'd go with a 4-4-2 for this one...

---------Chiellini---------------(because at the end of the day Abbiatti still hasn't conviced me, not because he comes from Milan...)

Zambo----Cana----Thuram-----Chiellini

Camo---Emerson--Paddy-----Mutu

---------Zlatan-----Trez------------

im excited. i definatly dont wanna play juve right now. but it has to be done. im not confident that milan will win this one, and it sadens me, but at this point in time, juve are just too tough to crack.

milan are a big game team, and always rise to the occassion. with the midfield & attack playing brilliantly lately, i guess its not entirely out of reach. stopping camoranesi and trez will be the key.
