I cant say that I'm surprised by this result. Ok, the odd goal may have popped in and that little bit of luck may have evaded us when we needed it most. But frankly, with all the plaudits Capello has mustered over the years, he's got another distinction to add to his resume. That being, of getting thrashed despite having perhaps, the best forward line in Europe.
The reasons are diverse, but none as clear cut as Capello's stubborn mentality. Which only filters onto the field in a more tangible way, through the players. I mean, Trezeguet, absolutely deserves to be on the pitch, with a goal in almost every match. Seriously though, what is the big idea (pun intended) of having Zlatan play 90 minutes if he's going to continue losing the ball to the opposition. What will it take for the so called Don to realise that giving Ibrahimovic the freedom and time to continue doing what he likes week in and week out, is only helping him become comfortable with his level of play in the belief that he's irreplaceable come the big game. What will it take him to realise that playing the 4-4-2 week in and week out will only make us more predictable, yes, even down the middle whether or not we have Emerson-Vieira holding guard or at least trying. All that, while limiting the ability to make the most of our resources, with Mutu and Del Piero both of whom make the possibility of a trident viable - which by the way, is the only way to bring down the opposition that would hold itself in the same category as us, both in Italy and Europe.
That said, who can argue with Fabulous Fabio, after all he's won titles everywhere he's gone. The only irony, I'm afraid is, he continually runs the risk of ending the season empty handed, despite having a team most coaches could only dream of.
