Fabio Capello has urged the Bianconeri to use their anger at the series of setbacks that have befallen them in order to beat Lazio tonight.
“We will take on this match with the right spirit,” said the Juventus Coach. “Lazio are not an easy customer by any means, so we have to make the most of our anger and drive. Without that, you won’t get very far.”
Juve’s three-point lead at the top of the table lasted just three days and the team is decimated for the trip to Rome. Emerson, David Trezeguet, Jonathan Zebina, Ciro Ferrara and Paolo Montero are injured, while Stephen Appiah and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are suspended.
“We will appeal against the three-match ban and I am confident of having Ibrahimovic back for the Milan game. In any case, we have done well without Zlatan in the past and will be fine now.”
As both Alessandro Birindelli and Gianluca Pessotto are struggling with muscular problems, we could see a new face in the line-up.
“I have not yet decided whether or not to field youth team player Masiello from the start,” revealed Capello. “He did well for a period against Inter and is confident of his own abilities. We will evaluate everyone’s fitness on the day and it’s a shame that Emerson’s hip problem is persistently troubling him.”
Gianluigi Buffon has not been on his usual form of late, though Capello stood by the World’s Number One goalkeeper.
“Gigi is a great ‘keeper who makes very few mistakes and is his own harshest critic. It is only normal that he always feels he can do better, as he is accustomed to performing the impossible.”
