Ariaudo is good but everyone is getting carried away with him, he still needs to improve a lot IMO, his positioning was bad against Catania, and we cannot afford that vs Lazio.

People are actually feeling safe with this backline. Now tell me what would be the reactions if someone back in 05/06 (days of Zebina - Canna - Thuram - Zambro) told you we were gonna field this backline in 2009:

I have to agree though, as of today, it feels kinda ok to field such a backline against Lazio. Legro made major improvements since he was widely considered a joke. Molinaro's reputation is far better than what it was a while ago. You know what you're getting with Mellberg and so Ariaudo is the only wild card here but from what we've seen the kid should be up for it.

Against Catania, Ariaudo did quite well, he always stepped up on time to deploy the offside trap, when the ball was at his feet he was calm and always looked to pass it out rather than just boot it upfield, and made some good interceptions. I think if he plays he will do well, and we'll come out as victors.

Also i can't believe people were suggesting Marchionni, De Ceglie or Molinaro as RB's, each are just competent in their natural position, which might be a bit harsh on PDC, but we haven't really established his position yet

I doubt Marchionni or Molinaro are worth a second thought as RBs. Marchionni is a natural winger - fast, small, attacking. And Molinaro, as mentioned before, needed so much time to play an acceptable LB. But De Ceglie is known as very versatile from his Primavera days (and even for Siena he had to move from time to time), where he played almost every position on the flanks. It'd be a risky solution, but the best of the three mentioned, because it would not change the overall formation much, too.
