Italian Cup, first match in Milan

The first leg will take place at the Meazza Stadium in Milan, on Wednesday January 23, at 9 pm. The return at the Olimpico in Turin, Wednesday January 30 (the kick-off time has still to be confirmed). This is what transpired from today's draw held at the Football League HQ, to decide the team playing at home first in the Italian Cup quarter final between Juventus and Inter Milan.

Whoever qualifies will face the winner of the two matches between Lazio and Fiorentina in the semi-finals.

Two games in just a few days making the final part of the month very busy for Juventus. Here are all the details:

Sunday 20, at 3 pm, Juventus vs. Sampdoria, Day 19 of Serie A and last match of the first part of the season
Wednesday 23, at 9 pm, Inter Milan vs. Juventus, first leg of the TIM Italian Cup quarter finals
Sunday 27, at 8.30 pm, Livorno vs. Juventus, Day 1 of Serie A's return fixtures
Wednesday 30 (to be confirmed) Juventus vs. Inter Milan, return leg of the TIM Italian Cup quarter finals

RANIERI CHOOSES 4-4-2

Trident or 4-4-2? And 'doubt of Ranieri. More likely the hypothesis 4-4-2, with a new Salihamidzic to midfield in the middle. If trident, however, the Bosnian playing anyway, but in defense instead of Birindelli. Forward Iaquinta with Trezeguet and Del Piero. Grygera instead Chiellini .

Probabile formazione (4-4-2): Buffon; Birindelli, Legrottaglie, Grygera, Molinaro; Marchionni, C. Zanetti, Salihamidzic, Nedved; Del Piero, Trezeguet

The call-ups

1 - Gianluigi Buffon
2 - Alessandro Birindelli
4 - Sergio Bernardo Almiron
6 - Cristiano Zanetti
7 - Hasan Salihamidzic
9 - Vincenzo Iaquinta
10 - Alessandro Del Piero
11 - Pavel Nedved
13 - Jess Vanstrattan
17 - David Trezeguet
18 - Jean Alain Boumsong
20 - Raffaele Palladino
21 - Zdeneck Grygera
28 - Cristian Molinaro
30 - Tiago Cardoso Mendes
32 - Marco Marchionni
33 - Nicola Legrottaglie

This defence has got to be one of the worst ever in a Juve lineup. So I think we will have to outscore Samp. Btw I hope Tiago wont be playing this time after what he said recently. And he just doesn't fit in. He IS a flop. He's been giving the chances. He can leave. My lineup for tommorow:

--------------Buffon
Birri - Grygera - Legro - Sali
-------------Zanetti
Marchionni-----------Nedved
-------------Del Piero
----------Iaquinta--Trez

Cassano skips Juve trip

Saturday 19 January, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sampdoria star Antonio Cassano is out of Sunday’s trip to Juventus after picking up a muscular problem.

The talented forward has been on great form recently and was expected to lead his side in Turin tomorrow afternoon.

However, he picked up a muscular problem in his left thigh and has not even made the trip to the Stadio Olimpico.

It is likely he will be replaced by Emiliano Bonazzoli, who bagged a brace in the 4-0 Coppa Italia victory over Cagliari midweek.

“This is a game that arrives in an important time for us and can be seen as a test of our potential,” said Coach Walter Mazzarri.

“If we are in good health the same way we were against Palermo, then Juventus will not have it easy.”

Samp thrashed Palermo 3-0 last week at Marassi, but their away form leaves a lot to be desired with two wins and seven defeats.

Sampdoria squad: Castellazzi, Mirante; Accardi, Campagnaro, Gastaldello, Lucchini, Sala; Delvecchio, Franceschini, Maggio, Palombo, Pieri, Sammarco, Volpi, Zenoni, Ziegler; Arnulfo, Bellucci, Bonazzoli.
