We're back! :weee:

Great game, although we weren't as good as the scoreline suggests. Andrade-Criscito partnership worked pretty well, while Zanetti-Almiron was even more impressive.

My ratings:

Buffon - Wasn't tested that much throughout the match, but did pretty well when needed. Could've done more on the Livorno's goal though. 6.5

Sali - Was good at the right back position, and had some good runs but still needs to work on his crosses though. 6

Andrade - He and Criscito worked pretty well together and didn't give a chance to Livorno strikers. 6.5

Criscito - Same as Andrade. 6.5

Chiellini - This game shows how much we missed him in the pre season when we played Molinaro instead, who isn't half as good as Chiellini. Great game. 6.5

Nocerino - He was okay at this game, but he was better at the preseason. He didn't play in his natural position though, which is central midfield. 5.5

Almiron - Our best buy this summer. Great passes, great runs, he was great at everything. 7

Zanetti - He might not be the best of players, but he will be crucial for us this season with his experience, as he proved in this match. 6.5

Nedved - I can't find the words right now to describe Pavel. We're VERY VERY VERY lucky to have him. Trezeguet scored three and Iaquinta two, but Pavel would be my choice for MOM. 8.5

Del Piero - Some good moves and good touches but nothing concrete. 6

Trezeguet - As swag said, you can't give less than 7 to someone who scored a hat-trick. 8

Iaquinta - I guess he surprised us all with tonight. Two goals and an assist is pretty good in his first official match for Juve. 7.5

Tiago, Zebina - No rating.

I am excited about the 5-1 scoreline, and was very impressed with the pace we set in the first half, and, like Greg already said, the way we kept attacking even after taking the lead. We didnt clam up and get defensive like we did back in the CRAPello days

That being said, I think some ppl here are ready to crown us champions, and sew the scudetto on our shirts, after one freakin' game

Livorno sucked...plain and simple. They had very little attack, no midfield, and the defense gave up once we went 2-0 up.

On the few attacks that they actually had, they were dangerous. The stronger teams won't miss the free headers in front of our net that our defense gifted them

Our defense was only tested on a couple of occasions...and if they played the way they should have, Livorno wouldn't have scored the goal at the end of the game

There are some here who think Iaquinta had a great game, but what did he really do ? He dove and drew a penalty for it, which he converted...he deflected a shot with his ass (unintentional), and had one good pass to Trez in the time he was on the field....he won't always be so lucky

Lets be a bit realistic and understand that we have a long way to go before we can pat ourselves on the back so much

my ratings-

Buffon - 6- Wasn't really tested until the end

Chiellini - 6.5 - Good defensively, and had a nice shot from distance as well

Andrade - 5.5 - He did what was needed, despite some bad marking at times, and a poor, poor clearance that any good team would have taken advantage of

Criscito - 6 - Some questionable positioning, and should have pressured the shooter on the Livorno goal. We'll see what he's all about when we play a real team

Salihamidzic - 6 - He muscled one of the Filippini brothers around pretty well, and was ok on defense, but he likes the long-ball way too much, and can't deliver it with any accuracy

Nedved - 8 - MOM !! This guy is a warrior in every aspect of his game. He was all over the damn place making things happen, and setting the pace for this team. He played like a 22 year old out there today !!

Nocerino - 6.5 - He is our Gattuso !! He mixed physical play with some nice passing and touches on the ball, and threatened the defense many times playing as a RM

Zanetti - 6- a decent game, he controlled the middle pretty well against an anemic Livorno midfield

Almiron - 6 - some missed shots, but not a bad performance. We will see the best of him as the season continues

Trezeguet - 8 - He would be my other MOM !! He made the most of his chances, and even pushed back a few steps to receive some shorter passes. When he's on, he's on !!

Del Piero - 6.5 - He did everything that was asked of him, but score. A nice cross to Trez for the first goal, and some good dribbling set other himself up a few times. He shouldnt have been subbed out, IMO

Subs:

Iaquinta - 6- The accidental goal scorer !! Like I said above, he dove, scored a pk, had a shot deflect off his ass, and made one nice pass the 30 minutes he was out there. Fluke I tell 'ya...FLUKE !!

Tiago - 6- He wasn't out there long enough to really get a good read about him...but he didnt make any mistakes that I saw

Zebina - 6 - same as Tiago, no noticeable mistakes

Coach:

Ranieri - 6- Not a bad first game in charge, I liked the pace we set out there, and our style of play, but what was the point of the DP sub ?? Why didnt Camo get a few minutes in there either ?? Will this season be spent seeing some questionable substitutions and strange quotes out of Ranieri ??

DP was subbed with the National Team callup in mind. and it's better if Camo wasnt played today and allowed to become fully fit in a week's time or so. at that time, there was no point risking an unfit Camo when we were already up by 2 goals!

Actually , it was a very logical and straightforward substitution . Juventus were defending in the beggining of the second half and needed a player with more pace and energy . In his best del piero is a little slow , and he's also tired . It was an excellent move by Ranieri and very justified .

Nocerino was covering the defensive gap left by slahimadzic perfectly , subbing him for an attacking player ( camo ) would cause problems for the defense and risky for Camo's health .

This is from Andy, who has been banned forever by Mikhail:

FANTASTIC match. Now this is the sort of start I was hoping for. Not only did we win the match with some flair, our tactics were exactly what I wanted to see. We did not step out onto the pitch like lethargic drunks, as we would have when Capello was in charge. Rather, we took the game to Livorno and kept playing with heart until the final whistle, scoring a few decent goals because of our effort. If Capello was still in charge, we would have scored no more than two goals because after the first goal we would have took our foot off the peddle, thus making us susceptible due to complacency and lack of drive. If we take the field and perform with the same drive, heart and tactical nous every match, we could very well win Serie A this year... no lies. But it's still too early to tell.

My thumbs up

The tactics. We took the field with a 4-3-1-2, with Nocerino pushing out a little wide on the right and Almiron having free reign in the center. It should be completely obvious that Nedved MUST be deployed in the center or have a free role, as he was superb opening up space for other players tonight. Our DRIVE and the way we pressured Livorno tonight was simply perfect. We never slowed down our pace of play and we continued to take the game to our opposition, something they cannot handle as they are an inferior side. This is something we never witnessed under Capello because he made us become complacent, thus looking lethargic and falling back whenever we had a lead. That shit DOES NOT work anymore, especially with the squad we have right now. We MUST take the game to the opposition with all the weapons we have, and if we sit back with this current defense, we will lose out in the end.

The midfield. Zanetti, Nocerino and Almiron were all very solid centrally, and all of you should be able to see how that trio can protect our defense very well, something we certainly need. It's obvious a three-man midfield can work for us, and I actually believe a three-man midfield is necessary with our current defense. Not to knock our defense as they did a good job tonight, but I still feel they are not strong enough for us to rely upon in the sense of constant attacks. I feel that we MUST have more of the possession so we can hedge our risk of defensive errors. A three-man midfield of Almiron, Zanetti and Nocerino/Tiago will give us that strength through the middle of the pitch that will smother opposition attacks. With the straight 4-4-2, we give up strength in the middle, and by strength I mean bodies. The more bodies we have through the middle, the more difficult it is for the opposition to penetrate our central defense.

Our finishing. David Trezeguet has already shown our board why he deserves his pay increase. Thank GOD our board was not that imbecilic to let him leave, as he is certainly a key player for us this season. Iaquinta is no Trezeguet, not a Del Piero, or anything for that matter. It's scary to ponder life when Trezeguet is retired because nobody else is as classy of a finisher as our David.

My thumbs down

Not much to say here after the first match. All I have to say is that it's still too early to tell how good we actually are. This Livorno side looked very weak, especially through the middle of the pitch, and they barely constructed a few attacks against us. They did have two good opportunities to score before Loviso's goal, and they came from marking breakdowns from our defense. So, I do believe our defense needs to impove big time in the coming matches. There is no excuse for missed marks, and while Criscito and Andrade did very well today, they still made some slight mistakes.

Conclusion

All in all, this is exactly what we needed. What a way to say hello to Serie A once again. Even though the penalty was a joke and Iaquinta thought he was Pele after the ball deflected off his side, it's still a result that is VERY good for our psyche. It's very important that we start off with a huge bang in our first few matches, and there's nothing like a 5-1 win against Livorno to start off our campaign. I congragulate Ranieri, the players, and the fans for giving us an amazing re-entry into Serie A, something Juventus does indeed DESERVE.

Buffon - Did everything he needed to do, which wasn't much, thankfully. He couldn't have stopped the Loviso shot as that was spot on. 6

Salihamidzic - Our new right-back. As soon as we got him I was pondering whether he could take this spot, but after today I have to say he deserves it. He's less mistake prone than Zebina, and when you add on his attacking prowess, he really has to play. What a warrior. 6.5

Andrade - Did very well intercepting passes and controlling the defense. Perhaps he missed a few marks, but he still did very well on his Serie A debut. 6.5

Criscito - What a player at such an early age. Apart from a few missed marks on crosses, he did very well, especially when thinking about his calmness and maturity at the back. Criscito plays as if he's a seasoned veteran. 6.5

Chiellini - I don't think he made a terrible mistake all match. Throughout the friendlies and this game, it's obvious he's superior to Molinaro, and we need him out there. 6.5

Nocerino - He seemed to be pulling very wide on the right, but he still looked damn good with the ball and fought with fire in his belly. Nocerino was a bane for Livorno's left side of midfield, as he always challenged for the ball and got stuck in. 6.5

Zanetti - Solid. He did everything he was supposed to defensively, and with him in midfield our defense will look much better. 6.5

Almiron - Absoluely the next Veron. He's our quarterback and with a little improvement, he could equal Veron in terms of ability. 6.5

Nedved - Fantastic. As I said before, he needs to be deployed in the center of the pitch or a free role up top, as he caused Livorno so much havoc with his runs. With Nedved patrolling the opposition 18, it will create so much havoc that we will be have many more opportunities to score than using the straight 4-4-2. GUARANTEED. 7

Trezeguet - Thank God we didn't let him go. Perfect finishes. Domenech is an idiot. 8

Del Piero - He created our first goal, which was crucial. Looked good but also looked a little slow, but Alex is still a great weapon. 6.5

Iaquinta - Took a dive to win the penalty, celebrated like he scored a bike after the ball hit his side and went into the net, didn't do much else to be honest. I don't know why people are so blinded by this guy. 5.5

Tiago - Looked good for the time he played, but the announcer kept labelling him a playmaker. He's not a playmaker FFS.

Zebina... not enough time to judge.

Well done boys, great start. FORZA JUVE.

Stop whining about it. I'm sure he can post again in two weeks. Does the guy really die if he can't post every day FFS?

you ALWAYS seem to whine.

Its damn obvious this game doesnt mean we are champs, also obvious that a game against livorno isnt a huge battle, but so what if they arent the best of sides. Juve still has to face those kind of teams in serie a, and credit to the team pushing on and also finishing those chances. Even if their defence opened up, some players would have blasted those chances high and wide over the crossbar.

Secondly toni is injured so Del Piero will very likely start against france, so he needs to be fresh for this HUGE HUGE game. Besides avoiding him getting injured as well.

Great start back in A!...

MOM x2 = Neddy & Trez...

I like the way Ranieri talked after the match.. We should keep our feet on the ground and not fly high because of a 5-1 over Liverno..

Forza Juve!

YYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!

Whether the scoreline flattered or not, I am delighted by the result, but lets not get carried away since it will be a long season. Anyway, since most of you guys are on ratings, so I wont bother.

Firstly, all the signings looks good. I dont know why Andrade isnt rated highly enough. I thought Andrade was terrific. I like him a lot. And you know, he can only get better. Almiron is technically very good and works hard. He seems like better player than I thought. Iaquinta two goals. But I liked his industry more. He makes those diagonal channel runs, and often operate as target man. Good complementary player, who just lacks technical touch. Its one game, but if the game is anything to go by, I think we had a decent mercato.

Seconldy, change in attitude is immense. Apart from 45-70min period, the team pressed with great intensity, Nedved in particular. I have not seen such hunger from Juve in many many years, especially after Crapello's cold professionalism. This team is full of enthusiasm, desire, and aggressiveness. I like our mental aspect of the game. Keep this up boys!

Thirdly, you can see the big chances in the playing approach on the field. Crapello never ever allowed his players to hit long cross-field pass because if intercepted it enables opposition to hit you on the break. This meant Juve played a lot of meaningless backpasses and long balls from defence to attack. Ranieri allows players to be more creative and assume extra risk. So in the first half, I thought we play very technical entertaining game with Ale running the strings. First half was a joy to watch.

Lastly, I am encouraged by our young kids. Criscito had fairly good game but nothing exceptional. I think he was the one who got caught out of position most times, but he is young, and will no doubt improve as time goes by. But he sure doesnt look like another Legro. His improvement is something that will entertain me this season. And Chiellini. Manchester City and Liverpool should come up 30m Euro for this kid, because I think he will be better than Pepe for sure. Chiellini was immense on defence as he normally is, but he even sured deceptively good touches for this game. And I like Nocerino. I really do. He can be a bit casual in passes, but he can definetely play. He reminds me of Antonio Conte but technically better. He made couple of maurading runs towards end of the match. Most people seems to think Nocerino is just bull fighter like Rino Gattuso, but as sateeh said long time ago, Nocerino is naturally more attacking player. He is more than just a destroyer IMO.

And I cant finish without mentioning special thanks to our senators. Ale wasnt as influential as he could have been, but he looked sharp. Extremely good touches, but couldnt quite go around players because he is reaching a stage where he cant run fast anymore. Taking him off early on was very wise move by Ranieri. Because Ale's class is something this team will need time and time again, and we need him fresh for the entire season. Trezeguet, what hero. I hope Domenech was watching the match, but he probably spent his time in bed with his wife. Otherwise, he cant really be that mad enough to put David in B squad. That is just an insult to man of undoubted quality. Buffon had his usual day in the office. And Nedved, what player. He looked fittest of all players, and you know he is like 60!:D Neved's hunger, professionalism is something that every youngsters should watch watch watch, and learn them from heart. He is a true role model, and Juve youngsters are blessed that they got such a 10000% pro in their team.

There are many areas where we can improve, but we certainly played well and deserved our win.

Trezeguet, Almiron and Chiellini were my favourite players. Criscito was steady and Brazzo hustled all match. Nocerino is more suited in the center of the midfield, and Zanetti did his job by covering for Nocerino and Almiron, who once again had a good game.

Livorno were very poor, so Im not jumping to any conclusions yet. Although once Camo is back, we will be that much better. Good way to start the season.

I enjoyed reading your post Andy but this part is a joke. You don't like Iaquinta, i don't like him either, but you're really not objective.
Ok, we can't say that he was brilliant tonight, but he certainly wasn't our worst player tonight. According to your ratings Iaquinta was our weakest link in this match.
No matter how he did it, he did score 2 goals and had a beautiful assist to Trez. Someone who scores twice, makes an assist and plays only 30 minutes can not be the worst player on the field.

But i guess you already know this. :p
