Alessandro del Piero continues his rejuventation at Juventus as the leaders face Sampdoria on Wednesday. The bianconeri striker struck the match-winning penalty against Atalanta at the weekend and will hope to inspire the table-toppers to a win against the Genoese European hopefuls.
The weekend win over the bottom side was marked by an uncharacteristic gaffe from Gigi Buffon, taking his eye completely off Lilian Thuram's powder-puff back pass to give Atalanta a consolation.
"I tried to stifle my laughter after that until the end of the game," revealed Buffon. "I won't tell you what a barracking I've taken from my team-mates. It's a good job we were already 2-0 up."
With Milan slipping to a 1-0 loss to Bologna - the rossoneri's second defeat in a row - the win in Bergamo meant a narrow two-point gap just two games ago has now been stretched to a healthy eight-point lead.
"We're satisfied with that performance. Capello has done brilliantly in maintaining the gap back to the chasing pack."
Pavel Nedved is still three weeks away from full fitness and with Ruben Olivera suspended, Alessio Tacchinardi will make a rare start alongside Emerson in central midfield.
Jonathan Zebina also sits out having passed the suspension threshold, so Gianluca Pessoto comes in at left back with Alessandro Birindelli slotting into the Frenchman's habitual berth on the right.
Samp have sneaked into the European spots with an impressive run of one loss in their last nine games, but will have to do without newly-arrived Simone Inzaghi who is suspended.
Wait a minute, I have seen three different lineups so far, even the one I saw on TV is different. However all have Del Piero starting, and I am surprised that Capello made that decision. Zlatan deserves a rest, though, so might as well give Del Piero a go of it.
