04/10/2004. At the Delle Alpi of Turin, Juventus returned to winning ways thanks to a goal by Trezeguet two minues from the end. A draw would have probably been more fair but th ebianconeri were able to take advantage of the only real goal scoring opportunity of the entire second half which puts Lazio three points behind Parma for the race to reach the fourth place.
Balanced first half with both teams trying to create their chances from the wings and Lazio actually scoring but the goal being disallowed for a dubious offside position. Juventus on the other hand played well up till the edge of the penalty area, but was unable to create many shots on goal to worry goalkeeper Sereni who replaced the injured Peruzzi.
The bianconeri came on the pitch all motivated, and after just a few seconds had the first chance of the match when a Trezeguet header went inches wide and in the 5th minute Legrottaglie shot just wide from a good position.
Lazio did not just wait for their opponents but replied action to action with Mihajlovic going close through a free-kick from the 38 metres and then in the 18th minute having a Corradi goal disallowed due to off-side.
The first half kept on the same rhythm with chances for both sides but no goals even though Zambrotta, Camoranesi and Trezeguet on one side and Corradi and Liverani all went close to score the first goal of the match.
The second half kicked-off in a less intense manner than the first half and boredom ruled with only half-chances being created and no actual shot on goal till the 88th minute when Trezeguet gave the lead to the bianconeri. The goal was unexpected as both teams seemed to be happy with a point, but a sudden flash in the Juve attack gave the bianconeri the 3 important points. Camoranesi crossed perfectly from the right where Trezeguet received unmarked and just one metre away from Sereni's goal to score the all-important 1-0.
The goal awakened the match from its sleep as Lazio frantically went forward to equalize, however it was too little too late as Juventus held well and won their first direct encounter of the season against one of the big teams to keep in touch with Roma while Lazio now trail fourth placed Parma by three points, but with a game in hand.
