Next match: Juventus - Cagliari

After conquering the lead also in the Champions League’s Group A, Juventus return on the field at the Delle Alpi facing Cagliari for the 15th leg of Italian Championship. A team in progress, the one in red and blue, that with the arrival of new coach Sonetti demonstrated ability to recover from the crisis and that today, in virtue of the recent draw in Palermo and victory against Sampdoria, is back in full fight to avoid relegation.

The Bianconeri, despite the best attack and the best defence of all the Serie A, will meet the playing field with great attention and winning motivation, qualities that always distinguished Capello’s squad, willing to offer a great show to their supporters.

Juventus vs Cagliari 4-0

Juventus dominate from the very beginning of the match against Cagliari. A 4-star result achieved thanks to a double score by Trezeguet, Nedved’s goal and an own-goal by Vignati.

Capello’s side is in control of the game from the very first minute. Ten minutes into the first half and there it comes the first goal: Vieira controls the ball well from the edge of the penalty area and serves for Trezeguet who shoots at goal from the short distance but the goalkeeper clears, the ball gets to Nedved who shoots at the open goal and scores (1-0). Juventus attack again on 13’ minutes with Mutu cross passing to Trezeguet but the goalkeeper anticipates. On 18’ minutes, the second goal arrives: Ibrahimovic heel passes to Mutu, he passes to Trezeguet who puts it in with a right-footed shot (2-0). On 27’ minutes, Nedved’s fine finish from a short range ends high, while on 33’ minutes the Czech passes to Trezeguet but his left-footed volley ends narrowly wide off target. Nedved repeats himself on 33’ minutes when, served for by Chiellini, his right-footed shot gets past the crossbar. On 37’ minutes, Juventus get close to scoring again: Trezeguet launches Mutu who gets into the penalty area and tries to shoot at goal but the goalkeeper clears for a corner. Following the corner kick, Lopez heads the ball, Abbiati tips it over the crossbar. On 45’ minutes, Ibrahimovic tries a right-footed shot at goal from a short range, neutralized by Campagnolo.

During the break, Sonetti leaves Conti out and replaces him with Budel. Cagliari try to attack with Gobbi, whose left-footed shot misses the target. Then it’s all Juventus, resounding. On 7’ minutes, Vieira serves for Ibrahimovic, the Swede’s right-footed shot from the edge of the box is hit off by the goalkeeper, Trezeguet gets in but the referee sees him in offside and stops the action. The third goal comes out from an amazing action: on 8’ minutes, Ibrahimovic makes an opening for Nedved, he crosses for Trezeguet who beats Campagnolo with a right-footed shot (3-0). One substition is made on both sides on 12’ minutes: Del Piero replaces Ibrahimovic, Cossu gets in to substitute Langella. On 18’ minutes, Suazo attempts on goal but Abbiati saves. On 23’ minutes, the fourth goal arrives for the Bianconeri, which is actually an own goal. Trezeguet takes advantage of an opponent’s back pass, gets past the goalkeeper and shoots at goal but his shot hits the post, Vignati tries to get the ball and kicks it in (4-0). After half an hour, Capello substitutes the injured Giannichedda with Blasi. On 36’ minutes, the last substitution is made for the Bianconeri, Nedved out and Pessotto in. Juventus keep control of the game until the end and the win allows them to continue their solitary race on top of the standings.

Capello: “Great Juventus”

Fabio Capello praises his squad for the 4-0 win over Cagliari, resulting from a flawless performance: “It was a great Juventus, we played with great determination and concentration until 90’ minutes, playing an amazing game. We are very well. I’m fully satisfied”. Someone makes him notice that this match’s ball possession was incredibly to his side’s favour: “We kept it well and we were also able to return and fight back when Cagliari was in possession of the ball, which proves our great conditions.” As for single players, he is asked about Vieira’s recovery, Mutu and substitutions: “Viera has come back to what he’s expected to do. He’s overcome the physical problem that had stopped him from training like the others, now he’s back to working at full speed and these are the results. Mutu played a fantastic match, I’m just sorry he did not score. I replaced Nedved because his tibia was aching, Giannichedda for a muscular problem and Ibrahimovic because he was warned.” Lastly, a word about the standings: “We’re ahead, but we have to keep calm, there are still many matches to play and points at stake, we have to keep on going with the usual determination and concentration”
