Yeah Marchisio really showed how well he knows the system when he sucked major balls in three out of four matches. Vidal has had a month to get to know this system. You can't just play Marchisio based on his performance in big games. With that logic in mind, Grosso is going to have a MOM performance. We should also play Grygera but only against Genoa because he will definitely score.

You want to play Vidal as left-back. What did you slip over in the tub this morning?

He has sucked major balls so I don't know what you're face palming at.

Good teams are going to mark Pirlo heavily who is one of the biggest reasons this team has made a turn around so far. If you take Pirlo out, we start pegging long balls with no real plan B. What we need is a partner for Pirlo who is A. aggressive and physical to adequately protect Pirlo and maintain possession and B. a good passer of the ball. If Pirlo is successfully marked then the responsibility falls at the feet of our other CM who needs to make the decisive pass. Marchisio has shown that he is unable to do both those things when the opposition really has their foot on the pedal. Vidal however is known for doing both those things very well.

Decisions like these should be based on a tactical perspective, not a historical one as well as what Conte sees in training during the week. Vidal has had time to understand our system from the sidelines, now its time for him to get to know it in practice. I have a strong hope that he is going to be our first world class center mid for a long time and there's no better way to get players fit or to have them adapt to a team than giving them real game time.

A- Marchisio is as good as a passer as Vidal has shown so far.
B- Marchisio is better technically than Vidal
C- Marchisio so far has done his main job good enough in all the games, wich consist of protecting Pirlo and staying back covering for him, wich wasn't done by Vidal when he played alongside him in the second half yesterday when he tend to go forward leaving us very vulnerable to counters which was clear in the second half.
D- Vidal is a box to box MF so he needs to adapt to his new role and understand it before he can be trusted to play there. That's why Conte played Marchisio in all our games.
E- Melo you are just a hater :p

Cheese. :hi:

To fix this Pirlo dependent problem we need our wingers to start rising up to the challenge. If, in the event Pirlo goes down, the fewer times we get them the ball the more they will need to start being more productive i.e. not dribble out of bounds. Krasic did well on the goal and his second half performance was great to see, it was what we all know he can do. His first half was not, but then again our team has historically (last 3 season) not been the strongest first half team, as it showed against Catania by conceding first.

We would be great in a 4231 if (IF) we could sign a sweet CAM (not me) to create in front of the box and help Pirlo supply the wings (neither Marchisio or Vidal would excel, but marchisio being stronger of the two in this case, Vidal sittin back next to Pirlo). Until we invest in a CAM (not me) we need to stick to the 424 or the 433, it suits the players we have.

At the end of the day, until our wingers start doing what Krasic did in the second half, we will find it frustrating to watch our team struggle at unlocking the opposition defense.

Ibra and Boateng will be playing this one.

Everyone else you mentioned Alen is still out.
Shit.

So more or less they are missing only Pato from the starting XI and they have an excellent replacement for him. With Zlatan back it's not the best time for Giorgio to have this shitty form.

Milan have a number of brutes in midfield (I guess Van Bommel and Nocerino will play) whose main task will be not to give Pirlo any space, attack him and counter. Luckily though, counterattacking football isn't something that Milan does well, especially without Pato.
I think that our RW will be very important in this game, be it Krasic, Giac or Pepe.

So...what do you think is the best formation for this match? I guess Milan plays smthg like 4-3-1-2 and their midfielders will be concentrated strongly on Pirlo. Is it a 4-3-3 that should allow better cover for Pirlo in the center and prevent Abate and Zambro from going up the field or is it a classical 4-4-2?

I am also torn, and anyone else please add to this:

Seeing Chiellini with the ball at his feet as a CB scares the hell out of me. Not as bad as Sissoko dribbling out of the defensive 3rd, but pretty close. If we sign Rhodolfo, he seems MUCH more competent with the ball at his feet. Buffon needs to start giving the ball more to the other CBs when begining play out of the back. When Chiellini is put under the slightest pressure 1 of 2 things usually happens: long ball or mistake at the back.

433 would give him more cover but with T.Silva & Nesta marking 1 striker does not make much sense for us. We should play with the 424 and do our best to keep them pinned back. Krasic & Elia for pace and to ensure that one of the stonger wingers doesn't get marked out. 2 strikers for Silva/Nesta to worry about and two pacey wingers to either keep the CM's moving into empty space as the outside backs track the wingers, that would open up more space for Pirlo/Vidal/Marchisio to operate. Nocerino/Gattuso are not the best with the ball at their feet so I am not worried about Pirlo.

Only concern is Zambro/Abate surging forward when one of our wingers are caught too far forward. :nervous:

I'd play the 4-4-2 it gives Pirlo much more space and options on the wing or in the center, We don't have to worry about Milan MF because it's slow, the only player i'm concerned about is KPB he's the one who' ll give problems. We do need our two wingers to have a hell of game to keep Milan FB honest and oblige them to think twice before going forward.
I'd be tempted to play the 4-3-3 if it means Mirko playing on the left that's the only way i could see it working, it will give us much more cover in the MF and two viable scoring options in Mirko and Matri who can't play alone in the Attack.

Give me this

Buffon

Lich - Barzagli - Chiellini(wake up ffs)- De Ceglie

Vidal - Pirlo

Krasic - Vucinic - Del Piero(C) - Pepe

- Del Piero should start the game. I don't want him to feature in the last 10-15min. He started the Parma game and we dominated home. Start him against Milan and we wont regret.

- Chiellini should wake up or he's gonna cost us another points.

- Vidal for Marchisio, Pepe for Elia.

Thank you very much, lets beat Peelan.

I think this game Pepe is needed he comes inside and helps Pirlo out alot and presses the opponents but then when we're attacking he'll also provide the width to stretch Milans midfield.

I'd go 4-4-2 against Milan. Their midfielders lack any pace so Marchisio/Vidal or Pirlo should not really be troubled.
